I hate being a cripple!

Recommended Posts

So my surgery on 8/1 went well... but now I'm into the 2nd week of no weight-bearing and going absolutely batshit with frustration at not being able to do stuff. (backstory- I was hit by a vehicle in '94 and my foot was broken, unfortunately Sparrow hospital didn't notice this so it never healed properly. Had bone spurs top & bottom, and the joint was all gunked up too. It was at the point where it hurt 24-7 so I decided to Get Something Done... basically they chiselled off the bone spurs and cleaned out the joint space a bit)

I am trying very hard to focus on gratitude that I won't be in this state permanently... gawd I hate being dependent on other people! Tokagemaru has been really sweet, coming over each day to feed the beasties and do chores. And people were very nice at Cherry Lane where we spent last Wed-Sun... we ended up without access to a golf cart due to the alcoholism/marital problems of our good friends (side note: I would like to talk to anyone who has experience with, a, doing an intervention, and b, being in an abusive relationship), so I ended up flagging down passing carts for rides to the bathhouse and events. Everyone seemed genuinely glad to help. I still felt bad that I couldn't help T. with the unpacking on arrival and loading gear for departure.

I hate not being able to: Go down the basement and interact with my bunny... take my leopard gecko out of his tank... work in my yard... do laundry... cook anything more complicated than fried or broiled whatever... vacuum the floors... shop at smaller stores... pump gas...

But I'm glad I can still: waste time online... do logic puzzles... make jewelry... play with my kitties and my serpent... take care of my basic needs afa food, hygiene, toilet... sit on my porch... drive if I have to... have sex...

So now I'm trying to stay off my foot so it heals up by the time school starts. Really overdid it yesterday which was kind of a wake-up call, today I'm being much better about staying put or at least not putting weight on it.

But it's still really a drag!

Is the pain worse than it was before the surgery? I've always hated that stage of healing. Hopefully, your bones will knit themselves back together quickly, and then you'll be good as new! You'll be shagging cars on a skateboard, and rock-climbing again, in no time (just kidding :p)!
