Some candidates want to raise taxes, some want to lower them, some want new ones, some want to get rid of old ones, etc. But no matter what happens, our taxes will still pay for governmental salaries and pensions. So think about this ...

A president's pension currently is $191,300 per year, until he is 80 years old.

Assuming the next president lives to age 80. Sen. McCain would receive ZERO pension as he would reach 80 at the end of two terms as president.

Sen. Obama would be retired for 26 years after two terms and would receive $4,973,800 in pension.

Therefore it would certainly make economic sense to elect McCain in November.

How's that for non partisan thinking???

Obama is going to fuck us really hard on taxes. His tax plan pisses me right off and I don't know how anyone can vote for him that has actually researched what the man wants to do...

I know many of you think we need to pay more in taxes... but do you really think you are going to be able to live on 25 to 30 cents out of every dollar?

All I get from that is that McCain has nothing on the line. He has no interest in the future of this nation. He could deep six it on a lark as he ain't gonna be around to see its consequences.

I want someone that is going to have to live with what he does for a long time to come. Someone that has their future on the line along with our's. McCain is just gonna bail on us.

Now thats nonpartisan thinking.

With racisim still very alive in this country, I have a feeling that if Obama is elected that some redneck who just drank a 6 pack is going to get the idea in his head and bust out the shotgun. That would leave us stuck with whom ever he picks as a running mate, which could end up sucking even more in the long run.

I look at it as we're getting fucked either way so pick the lesser of two evils.

Your assuming the attempt would not be thwarted.

Most of the time; the attempt is a failure.

I think we can trust the Wikipedia here.....LINK

# 1 Assassinations

WOW...More than I had though...note: some of these "attempts" are rather LAME...ie. 1 of G.W.Bush's 2...seems contrived.

I thought that the X-Prez got a squad of Black Coats, & the pension; FOR LIFE... (am I wrong?){is this a new thing?}

[i could not find anything about 80years old]

I found this...it is relevant..eh?

Dear Yahoo!:

How much is the president of the United States paid?

Jack

Hemet, California

Dear Jack:

We knew the presidential salary had been $200,000 for a number of years -- a relatively paltry sum considering the state of executive compensation these days -- but we were unsure of the salary our current president is drawing. We seem to recall hearing something a few months ago about a raise for our country's commander in chief.

We searched on "presidential salary," and on the first page of search results we received several relevant web sites and one amusing anomaly.

According to a CNN article dated July 16, 1999, the House voted earlier that week to increase the next president's salary to $400,000, which means George W. Bush, our 43rd president, makes twice as much as his predecessor, President Clinton.

After a little more research, we found a table that should put to rest any doubts that our country's former presidents are struggling to make ends meet. The National Taxpayers Union provides a Presidential Pension Graph that shows estimated pension benefits of former presidents. Bill Clinton stands to collect $7.29 million, the most of any living ex-president, while Ronald Reagan's pension is just over $2.5 million.

For a chuckle, be sure to read the aforementioned anomaly -- an article from the ever-popular Onion titled "Bush Horrified To Learn Presidential Salary."

Rhinophant. I didn't write it; I just copied and pasted it from another forum. I found it amusing and figured it would stir the blood of the liberals. Always a fun thing to do.

It always amuses me how little people actually know about the government and how it works. It does explain how so many Democrats get voted in.

Here's a bit of a laugh for you... Howard Dean, the chair of the DNC, called Republican's "the white party". Did he forget which party stood outside "white" schools to keep blacks out? Did he forget what party Lincoln was in? Did he forget that Democrats opposed every major civil rights bill that has been proposed?

Interesting observation, albeit not entirely accurate.

I am a student of government & history much like you, as far as I can tell.

I would have voted Democrat over a Republican pretty much since the "solid South" alliance broke apart (reference your post above as to which party opposed school integration).

Thankfully, neither party interests me much nowadays. Although the unbelievable debt the current administration has amassed is staggering--the next President will have to deal with it. Whichever candidate wins will take a hard fall for the nonsense that has gone on over the past eight years.

Howard Dean is a fucking moron who needs to keep his trap shut 99% of the time. I find it hilarious he's still the chair of the DNC, you'd think they would have gotten pissed at him by now.

That begs a question...

What would your beef be with Reagan?

Excellent play-on-words, given Mondale's '84 campaign responses to Hart's ideas--before he was soundly trounced by Reagan in the presidential election! Reagan was a decent president. However, when he cut taxes to the bone, he did not cut spending proportionately, which of course led to the modern era of the U.S. deficit balloon.

Really? Did you forget the major Recesion the country was in that was a hang over from Carter?

Sounds a bit like right-wing pass-the-buck rhetoric. Regardless, you cannot deny the deficit balloon that highlit the 12 years (& a bit beyond) of Republican rule from 1981 to 1993 (&, incidentally, again from 2001 to the present).

Or the extremly high interest rate the the Fed refused to lower on national Debt?

But of course, & in so doing the Fed also lowered the interest rate from approximately 14% to less than 4% in the two years between '81 & '83 by limiting the skyrocketing money supply--another triumph Reaganites like to attribute to then-President Reagan. To his credit & in his infinite wisdom, Reagan did re-appoint the man most directly responsible for the decline, then Fed-chair Paul Volcker (a democrat, incidentally). Ironically Volcker was never credited with this achievement. Reagan was given the credit, & instead Volcker was heralded as the architect of the early '80's recession. As the triumph in inflation decrease & the recession & unemployment that followed it were inextricably linked, it is always amusing to hear defenders of Reagan giving him the credit for the former while sweeping the latter under the rug.

What we really need to do is get the money out of the equation and get some fresh blood into the mix. The standing bureaucracy of aids, lobbyists and other behind the curtain players is why for as much as the government changes from Republican to Democrat, yadda-yadda the same flawed foundation is still there.

I'm no political scientist or economist but our country has been going to hell in a handbasket in my lifetime. I mean just look at the sheer propaganda that is political campaign ads. Who the fuck cares if you approve this message. It's all BS anyway.

The people who need to run our country are the people who really don't want the job. I don't know where this puts my personal philosophy on politics but if you've ever read Tom Clancy's series of books in the Ryanverse from Debt of Honor onward you'll know what I'm talking about.

The best people to run a government are the people who aren't tempted by the power and prestige. You need people who are willing to serve but lay down their influence when they're done. People who are mature enough to stop arguing about petty ideological points like flag burning or gay marriage to address things that really matter like the hungry in our country, keeping our borders and way of life safe without compromising our liberties. People who don't turn to fear tactics and misinformation when they try to persuade or inform the American people about the issues and problems we face.

Hell we live in probably the worst hit state in the nation when it comes to economic hardship. Stockholders are killing our economy forcing companies to kowtow to their profitability expectations instead of looking forward and figure out what direction will keep this company going into the next century. Our country should be focusing efforts on breaking our addiction to fossil fuels and working on creating new sustainable, affordable, clean energies in a TVA style program. We shouldn't leave it to corporations to answer our problems because they only want us to buy their product.

The only problem becomes, how do you coax Cincinnatus off the farm to step into the President's office for four years?
