SuZQZ
Over the past two weeks I have been getting some really creepy emails and friend requests from goobers wanting to "hook up" on MySpace. Apparently, the part on my profile that states I am on there for friends and networking does not raise a flag with these creeps. It's been a pain trying to weed out who is legit in just trying to network and make the world a little smaller, and who is looking for a "hook up". So, this morning I changed my relationship status on my account to In A Relationship. It's pretty sad when you have to basically lie to have some peace of mind. I really didn't want to do it. I strive to be honest and open, but I am just so tired of the douchebags. I feel the need to shower after reading some of the stuff I've been getting. Hopefully, this will cut out the gross I have been getting. Fingers crossed!
freydis
I hate to say it..... but it wont. You could put married, and theyd still send creepy messages.
Goth Brooks
Put an ugly bulldog butch dyke up as your main pic, set your others to private, and change your status to married/lesbo. Voila.

hunhee
Hmm... maybe your myspace picture is too pretty. That will attract creeps no matter what your status is. My picture is horrid, so even though I am on there as "single" I get no creeps. This may also be due to the fact that I am a guy and I there are far fewer female heterosexual creeps than male. Yupp.. we're definitely in the minority

GothicRavenGoddess (3)
It worked for me.... I think that single or not, I will keep mine set to "In a Relationship" I think that it may have something to do with your sexual preference, as well... when mine said straight, I didn't get any (and that was way back when i first got a myspace, and didn't know how to change that stuff)... now that mine says "Bi" I get more... but I get WAY less then I use to, with changing my status... Lying about things on myspace don't bother me, though... Those that know the truth about me are the only ones that matter.
LadyKay
Mine is set to married because I am married. And I still get people trying to hook up with me. I just laugh it off.
Guest greyhalo
The site has become more predatorial over the past few years as more and more people have joined. Since I've been single again over the past month, I've had a number of creeps contact me on MySpace. They all tend to be older (45+) men who have nothing in common with me. I don't even state that I'm interested in dating or relationships in my profile. People will contact you for possible "hook-ups" even if you're in a relationship or married. But, it's far worse when you state that you're single.
SuZQZ
Hmmmm... I'm liking the idea of putting up either a wretched picture of myself, of which most of them are, or of some other gross thing. I also set my profile to totally private. We will see if that helps any. It's just such a pain in the ass. And Hunhee, I know you must get email and friend requests from tons of guys. You're too much of a hottie not to! Edited to add the below possible new profile pic: Now that's hot! LOL

Then, unless theyre friends, theyll have NO IDEA what you look like.
taysteewonderbunny
my pic is just a box. People don't get too excited over calciferous lime in cardboard. Works well.
EnViOuSPoPpEt
No it's true I had this problem for a while as well... I had a very seductive picture of myself and the messages began, even tough my status was MARRIED, and the reason for having myspace is FRIENDS. These creeps do not care, the best solution is picture change. God some people just can't hold their dirty little minds when meeting people on line geezzz... taysteewonderbunny
Yeah, I think that, on myspace and elsewhere, the picture is what people search by. It's not what you say that interests these people. It's whether or not they can jack off to your avatar. Besides, many have very different definition of "Friends", basically a euphemism for someone they can talk dirty to (and possibly hook up with) without it looking suspicious to their mates. Homicidalheathen
I made a new one and keep it on private and only add peeps I hang out with weekly...or monthly...that helps a lot cause they will find you through other peoples profiles too. TygerLili
I feel left out! I almost never get these, my profile says that I'm single (which I should probably change b/c that's not really accurate anymore), and I don't even have mine set to private. On the rare occasions that I do get them, they are usually too laughable to be seriously annoying. Like the foreign guy with hideous grammar who sent me like a 2 page message asking if I loved him and if I had "the heart of a sea lion". Too goofy and pathetic to really annoy me.
