Will You Allow A Man To Cut Your Hair?

I have let men cut my hair in the past and every time it was a disaster. They would always do what they wanted with the cut even after my specific instructions and definitely would cut off way too much. I am sure there are many men who are professionals about it and would do an excellent job. There will always be an exception. I will never allow myself to get my haircut by a man now though.

I mention this because my stylist is moving to Atlanta and I will now have to look for a new one after many years. I used to go to Orbit in Ann Arbor and next week will be my last cut there because my stylist is leaving town. I am used to paying 120.00 for my services. Does anyone have a salon they could recommend? I've heard London Calling Salon is excellent, anyone tried them? Thank you in advance.

There is a TERRIFIC male stylist named Carl who works at Denny's Hair Studio in Waterford. He's one of the best I have ever had. As a matter of fact, every stylist at Denny's is top notch. I highly recommend this salon. They are one of the best. :)

I believe a woman's cut for long hair is $70.

There's a salon in AA called 'A Peter James Salon'.

There's, of course, Peter James who works there. He's got several other stylists, too, but the only other one who's cut my hair has been Anna, and she did a fabulous job, too.

Peter's cut my hair, too, and it looked great.

I think a cut's somewher between $30 and $45 - I can't remember - but if you're a first time client, your first visit is half off. Not sure how much the coloring is.

I have also heard that London Calling is good.

The guy that was my barber, retired.

Then in 1994 I had a car accident and got an injury on my head where there is a spot now that doesn't have hair on it, so at the time I grew my hair long.

13 yrs later, 2007, I got a haircut, by a woman.

I don't think it matters what gender the stylist is, what matters is if they do what you ask them to do.

I haven't had my hair cut in almost two years, I used to have a stylist, but lets face it, I have no style.. ;)

Anyway, I used to have a really great stylist, his name is Mike.. HOLY SHIT he was hot.. and gay.. very very gay.. but HOT!!! anyway.. he was at Salon Nadjwa in Novi. I loved him because he could make my hair look fabu, AND it was good enough, that I could sorta semi make it look almost as good the next few weeks. :) That to me is a sign of a good stylist. :)

I frickin' LOVE my hairstylist who is a straight guy (motorcycle dude with dreads). His name is Jeph Wright, and he works out of "6 Salon" in Royal Oak & Birmingham. He's not cheap, but he understands how to cut hair & can do great color, especially of the rock n roll variety. He isn't afraid to make your hair a completely different color if that is what you want. I HATE conservative stylists. Jeph is quite honestly the best stylist I have ever had, and I won't change. Before I found him, I used to get my hair cut once a year out of "necessity." Now I find myself going back to add more color & get a trim every 2 months (!). That hasn't happened in 15 yrs. because I can't stand it when I walk into a salon & ask for color & walk out of the salon with the same goddamn color as when I walk in! And yes, that HAS happened to me in the past!!!!

If you have never seen me, let me describe what Jeph did for me: I went from being a dirty-dishwater-dark-blonde color to a bright coppery redhead with all sorts of kick-ass layers in my long hair. Everyone LOVES my hair now, tell me it suits me very well, and that I should have done it years ago! I never realized I could ever love my hair this much. It's all thanks to Jeph.

He's not cheap, but just ask how much the services are before you get it done so you won't be surprised! It has been TOTALLY worth it for me & I feel really great about myself! :)

Exactly.

If the stylist has the ability to follow instructions, has comprehension skills, and "haircutting ability" then there shouldn't be a problem.

I think I've only ever had one male cut my hair, and he was the only stylist I've ever worked with who try to talk me into getting more than an inch taken off. However, he left the ends way too blunt. I need a little razoring b/c my hair is pretty thick.

Anyway, as someone already said, I don't really care who cuts my hair, as long as they do what I ask, and manage not to make it look like someone cut my hair with a lawn mower. I always end up tweeking the layers when I get home anyway, so I don't throw a fit if they're not perfect. The only ways to really piss me off over a haircut are to completely ignore what I asked for, to make me think I could have done a better job myself (I have little to no skill at cutting hair) or to cut it so short that I can't pull it back. What I usually tell stylists is "You can be the judge of where the layers should go, as long as I can still get it in a ponytail when you're done. If I can't, no tip!"

The problem is , is that these men didn't do what I asked them to do in regard to the cut. Also, my hair stylist's last day of work was today , and I had an appointment. She left work early and canceled my appointment. I ended up not getting my hair done before she moved. I understand she is leaving state and had things to so. I had a feeling this would happen. So, if anyone has any suggestions to a nice upscale salon please let me know. I've been doing research online but it's so hard to know unless you meet someone who has actually had their hair done there. Thank you again in advance for any further suggestions.
