wanting to form a new goth band

So I'm sitting around watching old creepy horror movies and I get to thinking about how much fun it would be to start a new gothic band. Something older and reminiscient of Bauhaus, Cure pornography era, old Siouxsie, Death in June like. I would love to put something together and do a Halloween party or something to that effect. It could be theatrical as well. It could be a mix of original material and fun goth covers. I'm open to any suggestions to style, sound, etc. Anyone up for some fun with this?

Actually, I have a pretty decent drummer, local musician in mind. This is right up his alley. I sing, play guitar, and keys though I would rather just sing and play guitar.

who else? What kind of tunes would people wanna hear? Should we go with a straight up old school goth sound, something comical like Voltaire, gothabilly, cover tunes, or a mix?

It would be cool if it were old school goth sound and not psycho/rockabily or comedic since that is the thing right now....

I was thinking somewhere along the lines of Bauhaus, Alien Sex Fiend, Joy Division, Sisters, early Cure etc. Keyboards could be a nice background addition but not so heavy on keys like a lot of modern bands do. Then again, I guess it depends on the song. There is just a certain atmosphere that songs like Hanging Garden, Flat Fields, I Walk the Line, etc, have that I would like to capture. I like the idea of using guitars to create creepy dark sounds which Bauhaus did a lot. Keep coming with the feedback. Ideally, Im looking for a solid bass player, lead guitarist who isnt a wanker per se but likes experimenting with guitar fxs, a drummer which I probably have at this point, and synth/computer programming/anything else. Dancers would of course be a plus. And someone who likes to play with lighting effects, atmosphere, etc. Prhaps a bunch of us could just get together somewhere with all our gear, hook up, and see what comes of it.

Motor Goth has not been taken as a name

I own a fretless guitar and a 12 string, half strings unstrung acoustic

an acoustic that's M.I.A,

I can -keep the beat- on drums

and can do -spoooooooooooky minor key keyboards-

also am actually better at bass than guitar???? says someone else maybe.

Motor Goth

take the DaG Blasted Band Name and we'll see what comes of it

{I DIG THESE THINGS TOO}

Keyboards could be a nice background addition but not so heavy on keys like a lot of modern bands do.

{I like a synth line that accompanies the bass player, & the guitar player}{& 'special' percussion}

Then again, I guess it depends on the song.{ALWAYS DOES}

I like the idea of using guitars to create creepy dark sounds which Bauhaus did a lot.{that is very hard to do}{I HEAR}

Keep coming with the feedback. Ideally, Im looking for a solid bass player, lead guitarist who isnt a wanker per se but likes experimenting with guitar fxs, a drummer which I probably have at this point, and synth/computer programming/anything else. I have a not small stack of partial songs ready for a band to look at... Constantine has heard a good portion... it is different music than my "Own Songs" to which I feel too controlling about to want to do them with other peoples... I can write parts to go with what we want... or not... Like you said, "depends on the song"...

...I write lyrics... so does THE CRAVEN RAVEN... I am fully capable of the vocals for male lead... if no one minds...

Does anyone know if we could use the Lab as practice space or would that be a bad idea? i thought it might be an easy place for all interested to meet up for a few hours and practice. i like the name Motor Goths... Were you serious about the name? Im terrible with band names and end up driving myself nuts in the process. I suggest maybe to get the ball rolling we also pick a few cover tunes to try out at a practice to break the ice or maybe you guys just wanna throw out some original ideas. If we could use the lab, who do I need to talk to about this? Here's a few cover suggestions:

Spellbound-Siouxsie

Strange Day, Figurehead, or Primary-Cure

Hurricane Fighter Plane or Now Im feeling Zombified-Alien Sex Fiend

Flat Fields, Bela...., Kick in the Eye-Bauhaus

Misfits-Halloween

45 Grave-Partytime

Killing Joke-Love like Blood

I could go on and on

we could all also meet at CC on Friday night to make plans. i wanna get going with this so we can do a show around Halloween. It would also be nice to meet many of you. i really dont know any of you that well. Who wants to meet up at CC for this or hell just hang out I guess?

If any would like to talk with me, please email me privately and I will give you my cell

Ok, so I've talked to quite a few of you and here's what i think I have at this point:

A drummer with electronic kit

Synth programmer with backup vocals

2 possible bass players

1 guitar rhythm and or experimental

1 lead vocalist who can alos play rhythm or lead

Why dont we meet at CC next Friday or Saturday to figure out a place to practice and everyone's schedules. If there is anyone else interested, please let me know asap so we can get this thing rolling ebfore October. Let me know your thoughts and whether or not you're still in for this. This will be the final notice on here. You can email me at dkonstruct@yahoo.com as well. Thanks to everyone who has ben listening. Hopefully, we can put something together to entertain the rest of you.
