Destroit
It's 1:11 am, not sure who's up except me studying for a class tomorrow but when I took a break to stand up I looked out the window and to the north there's what I can only describe as a long wavy Chernobyl colored band that's kinda jagged. I've never seen the northern lights before but I do know they're sometimes visible from Michigan. Has anyone else seen this tonight, or am I just smoking crack? I put it in current events because well...it's a current event, aight? Just wanted to see if it was the real deal or if I'm just looking at clouds funny. jynxxxedangel
I saw the northern lights about 16 years ago, at Wisner Stadium, in downtown Pontiac. I think it was in either winter, or autumn. My friends and I were there using the track to do some running. We all looked up, and saw the Aurora Borealis! It was so beautiful..I will never forget. I've seen them many times since, but never again in Michigan.
Destroit
I did do a little research in the past 20 minutes. Somebody in southern Wisconsin (which is almost parallel to here) saw them and someone else in Michigan, so I guess I don't feel so crazy. I also checked their space forecast which said there was a good chance of atmospheric instability that could cause it. But seriously...I thought it was it when I looked out the window, you know...the mothership. Doom...doomm....DOOOMM.... Glad I took a step back a minute, took a second to use my brains, and came to the conclusion that it was most likely radiation trapped in our atmosphere due to the magnetic poles and NOT aliens. Whew, it was a close one .

Destroit
Its a strange time of year for it but yup you saw it alright! I have seen it 3x in Michigan too...late at night usually but usually in November or February Amazing stuff, I've never seen it before in my life except in pictures. It wasn't TOTALLY clear like a lot of the pictures I've seen in text books, which were most likely taken in either Alaska or Canada, but it was definately a huge green/yellow glowing ribbon across the north part of the horizon. Really badass stuff.
SaGa
must be some pretty strong solar winds coming through. it is approching the fall equinox so who knows, maby we could see some more lights. just make sure you tell us on the boards if you spot them again. Rayne
I saw it once ... I was on the freeway on the way home from somewhere (I don't even remember where, but it was pretty far from what I remember) a few years ago. I was amazed.
