I've been thinking that "up" is a determination based upon our relation to the largest gravitational body in proximity to us--namely that "up" is the state of being pointed away from that body. So say you are in space, equidistant from and betwixt two enormous but gravitationally equivalent bodies....which way is "up"? I think any which way would be "down", really.
