Let us know where you like to eat and what you like to order. I LOVE restaurant reviews, esp. if they're from people I know.

I'll start...

One of my favorites is Cafe Sushi in Troy--on Maple (15 Mile) and Crooks Rd. The Max Roll is to die for. They have a great martini menu, and a few choices for sake.

Also, Frittata in Clawson is wonderful. They serve breakfast and lunch a few days per week. This art deco cafe serves a variety of rich dishes as well as excellent coffee.

Back to topic: I logged in to start this topic, so I'm really glad to see it's already going! Here are a few faves:

Priya - the mostest awesomest Indian food you can imagine. 2 locations (15/Main & 10 Mile/Halsted) to blow your mind at.

El Comal: Central American/Mexican food. Almost as good as - and sometimes better than - mom makes. It's in Mexicantown; Las Brisas rocks down there, too. Perhaps the best place there, however, is this taqueria a block or so west of Armando's that has a fish soup to die for. Unfortunately, I forgot what it's called.

Speaking of Mexicantown restaurants, I don't know if it's still there but there used to be (of all things) a Hungarian restaurant right on Vernor. They only had about half a dozen entrees, but they were all killer. If I could remember the name, you know I'd tell you.

New Seoul Garden (NW Hwy/Telegraph) and Udon Bakery (Harrison north of the Breslin Center in E. Lansing) totally dominate as far as sushi's concerned.

Inn Season: pricey, pretentious and worth it. Vegetarian/fish dishes extroadinare.

...and I'm still mourning the loss of the La Shish chain.:(

Toast in Ferndale. Amazingly delicious breakfast. Same with the Original Pancake House in Birmingham (And other locations). The lines to get in on weekend mornings is no accident.

I personally like the food and beer at Woodward Ave Brewery. Others weren't so impressed. Whatever. In Ferndale.

The Emory ,across the street from WAB is also quite good.

Up Woodward a block from there is the Cajun place, Howes Bayou. Yum

Another block north and you get to the Fly Trap. I only went once, but the food was very good. I've heard nothing but good reviews from friends and press since.

I haven't had a bad meal yet at Gus O'Conners in Novi. Great Irish fare.

The Beverly Hills Grill is another standout. Be prepared for a line and a smile when you leave. Type of food varies, and I haven't been in a bit, but again, never disappointed.

Traffic Jam & Snug: meatloaf of the gods!

Union Street: is there anything on their menu that doesn't fucking rock? Good beer selection as well, or so my friends tell me - I don't drink.

Sala Thai: Lafayette just east of I-375; incredible food priced so cheaply you'll think you're stealing.

El Loco Bar & Grill: kitty-corner from the Greektown casino. I only go here for one thing - tacos al carbon!

Village Place: Cooley Lk Rd in Waterford. Best 24-hour diner I can think of. Love the desserts (Union Street's are great, too)!!!

I'd like to second the al-Oumara suggestion above - their shwarma combo is the shit!

More:

Fishbone's--The best Cajun/Creole-type place in the area. I tend to go to the one in Southfield, though they have restaurants in Detroit and St. Clair Shores as well. The Sunday brunch is $25. per person but SO WORTH IT.

Pronto--An old stand-by. I've never had anything there that wasn't excellent. I think they have the BEST sandwich selection.

Also, I agree about Traffic Jam being great!

Tunnel Bar-B-Q and Jade Chinese Cuisine: your Windsor fail-safes! JCC serves dim sum 'til 4 A.M. every day of the year.

Steve's Soul Food: *foodgasms*

Rangoon Express: not sure about the name, but I do know it's at Mound & M-59. If you can't get to Priya, this may be the next best thing. They have at least one more location, but damned if I know where.

Jacoby's: 'round the corner from St. Andrew's Hall. A German friend of mine vouches for the potato pancakes, and I can give big ups to the sausage platter and the French Onion soup, which is made with Guinness.

Steve's Deli: Telegraph/Maple...definitely overpriced, but sometimes nothing else will do.

Tomato Kitchen, Sylvan Lake: right up there with Steve's Soul Food for kickassinest carryout.

Steak & Ale on Ann Arbor Road in Plymouth was my favorite for 25 years until they closed it down a few months ago. I enjoy Union Street on Woodward in Detroit. Kiernan's Steakhouse on Michigan Ave in Dearborn. Capital Grille in Troy @ The Somerset Collection , I love as well.

It's hard to beat Miller's bar on Michigan Ave in Dearborn for your basic awesome burger joint. They really don't do much else, but they do it damn well, and they've been doing it for many, many years.

Good lord, man! No joke. Every time I go there, I end up getting the Madras Meatloaf even though I ponder and drool over the specials of the day. And though I've had better desserts, it is just so much fun saying "Carlotta Chocolatta Ice Cream Cheesecake"!

Sala Thai: Lafayette just east of I-375; incredible food priced so cheaply you'll think you're stealing.

They have another (nicer) location in Eastern Market in the OLD fire station. But I really prefer a hole in the wall in Dearborn called Thai Palace II on Michigan Avenue. It's even cheaper and tastier (imo) than Sala and you get free soup in the dinner hour.

Too far away for me. My favorite places are no more: Monty's (was on Harper in SCS--I waitressed there for eons, got the job b/c I was there so much, lol) and that late night place that was next to a bakery (the one that is now, um, um, whatsit, food is decent--shit. Well I can't remember. But they had good samosas at the place that is no more. This was back in 2000. Damn. Oh well. Now, I pretty much go to Linda's at 9 mi and Harper. Not bad. Not terrific either.

I'll have to check it out. Currently my favorite is Al Shalal on Warren just west of Telegraph. Good lamb.

Others I like:

Los Galanes in Mexican town, but just for the goat. The rest is pretty unremarkable.

Absolutely everything I've ever had at Atlas Global Bistro on Woodward downtown, but is very expensive (for my budget), like a maybe once a year thing, for my Mom's birthday or something.

Baile Corcaigh in Corktown on Bagley. Best filet I have ever had! They brought me one nearly rare; I sent it back and they gave me a blue one, just like I like it. And of course, the potatoes rocked. Appetizers are worth it, too. Nice selection of beers on tap.

As far as bakeries go, I'm partial to Shatila on Warren (near Greenfield, I think).

I haven't been in a while, but I've had some tasty dishes at Majestic Cafe.

Da'Eduardo's on Mack Ave in Grosse Pointe. Gets expensive fast, if you like wine.

Msterbeau, I second your opinion on The Original Pancake House. Weekly breakfast tradition in my family since we moved to GP in 1980.

Oh, and I wish I could remember the name of that diner that had the best BLT I'd ever had. Darn. When I figure it out, I'll post it.

The rest aren't in this state, so I won't bother putting them down here.

Terry's Terrace in Harrison Township...They make the best crab stuffed mushrooms! The stuffed orange roughy is another delectable dish there.

Eph McNally's - in Corktown, near where Tiger Stadium used to be. Yummiest Deli sandwiches like ever

Omara's - I think it's Clawson? Irish, but their menu is like twelve pages long and everything is good

Sushi Ko - 12 mile and orchard lake - really yummy sushi, very reasonably priced

Red Coat Tavern in Royal Oak - AWESOME burgers, adn they have scotch eggs, if you realy want a heart attack today, I suggest the scotch eggs

I second Miller's Bar and Priya - both are DEELISH!
