New Order's new disc

So back in high school New Order was THE band. The goth kids liked them, the jocks were into them, critics worshipped them, they had a cult following and were big in the "underground" but were also played on top 40 radio and MTV. They were big in the post punk scene as well as the dance clubs. All the Detroit techno DJ's heaped tons of praise on them. They sold tons of albums.....between 1986 and 1989 they were probably the best pop band in the world, they were more respected than The Cure, Depeche Mode, U2 or any of their other contemporaries.

Then they basically just walked away. After the 80's were done they only put out albums in 1993, 2001 and now in 2005. So now when they put out records all the critics gush over their newer albums just because they are back, they like to talk about how influential they are to techno and modern alternative.

But the truth is that New Order sucks and they have sucked for the last 15 years. I bought the CD yesterday anyway out of curiousity. Let's see the difference between New Order now and then:

1980's New Order: barely appeared in their own videos, never lip synched in videos or on stage. Wore cool clothes, were basically cool people.

2005 New Order: Old and decreptit looking. Ok I know they are almost 50 years old as people so isn't time to give up? Now they mime their videos, they jump around like idiots.

1980's New Order: Never needed a guest star on their albums, they didn't need to.

2005 New Order: Last album they had fraking BILLY CORGAN on their album and had Moby and the Red Hot Chili Peppers join them on stage. Now they have the chick from the Scissor Sisters singing on their new album.....and this is after New Order appeared on Gwen Stefani's solo album....WTF?????????

1980's New Order: Wrote revolutionary pop songs like 'Temptation', 'Blue Monday' and 'True Faith'.

2005 New Order: They sound like elevator music. It sounds like they bought cheap casio keyboards and let the pre-programmed dance beats do all the work while Peter Hook plays the same bass lines he has been played for 30 years. Meanwhile the lyrics are awful.

Now there were a few good songs on the album, but nothing anyone couldn't live without. They are a terrible, terrible band. I know people worship New Order so they don't want to hear it but it's true. New Order's hardcore fans are always a little snooty (i met the hardcore new order fans when they played Pine Knob in '89) and they all seem to think the cure and depeche mode were mere substandard New Order knockoffs, well I can certainly say the newer Depeche Mode records are far more interesting than New Order is now.

ok I have a question .. what do u think of Summers voice on "out of control"

here why I ask

Interview with Peter Hook, when asked what track he's ever heard that he wishes he'd made:

"The Chemical Brothers: Out of Control. Barney did the vocals on this one and I couldn't believe it when he played it to me. It's fucking fantastic. Those lands really know what they're up to. It even sounds like New Order. When I heard it I was a bit pissed off to tell you the truth, because it's so good."

well

Ima big fan of new order and the chems but im kinda glad new order did not think of it.. they are different in all aspects and new order are more of musical gods and such

mabey I am not making much sence.. but just your take on it if you have heard of it.....

actually it sounds like a early New Order song, sounds like everything's gone green or the original temptation.

The metro times called "out of control" by the chemical brothers "the best new order song not done by new order".

It's a cool song, the Chemical Brothers are big New Order fans, they even covered New Order's 'temptation' (moby also covers that song on his new album) and helped New Order produce their song "here to stay".

I like the chemicals other tunes as well.

    • ~~~~~ Yeah, thank you for the check-in.   Happy to say it was all a misunderstanding.  But she pulled out her "ghetto" and that's when things went South.  I get very professional minded when I enter into situations like that because when someone starts bring the court into conversations, I'm in court 2 times a year, every year, so don't go there with me because I will get legal all over you.   She did try to change what she thought she might have said, but I had to call her on it because it's all in written text.  Then she apologized and we were able to have a decent conversation.   I know I joke about me talking so much that people don't hear what I say except for keywords that they are looking for, but that is exactly what happened here.  She heard "payment", "money" and "help out".  It was crazy.  I literally had to have the entire conversation all over again, but I definitely condensed it to only address those 3 words.   Things are back on track, but I emphasized that if she every needed clarification for anything, please say something first instead of jumping to conclusions, then questioning that conclusion, then answering that conclusion, then getting upset at the answer and taking it out on someone who doesn't have a clue what the San Juan Hill just happened.   But this is exactly the reason I do everything with a paper trail.

    • I'm glad  that yesterday's day at work is long gone now. There was a very strong unusual energy that I felt, and couldn't get done with the day fast enough. It wasn't  the job at all. I just felt like I really needed to keep my mouth shut, to keep me from getting in situation(s) that probably wouldn't have ended well for me.
