HTML has been dead since I learned it over 10 years ago (that being said, I still hand code a LOT using HTML 4.0). CSS is still in use a bit but dying too. ASP was all the rage but PHP is the most predominant. The best thing you can probably do is get the complete Macromedia Suite, learn it in and out, learn CSS and PHP, stay practiced in HTML, learn enough Flash to add interactivity when needed, and just practice, practice, practice.

Speaking of which, if you need a project to practice with and build your portfolio, let me know. I have tons of hand sketched ideas for my site that I just don't have time to play around with.

I have books and I'm starting to learn myself... I have a WordPress blog up but i want to design my own template or at least alter one that's out there until it looks how I want. Figuring on learning some HTML/XTML plus CSS and a little PHP. Very little... I agree with Spook on learning Dreamweaver and Flash if you're gonna take it seriously. (Dude - Macromedia got bought by Adobe a couple years ago... where were you?) Look into Adobe's Fireworks for site prototyping. I can get you CS4 Beta licenses if you need them.

True, but when you say "Macromedia Suite" people know you're talking about Dreamweaver, Flash, Fireworks, and those other two programs. When you say "Adobe Suite" people tend to think of Photoshop, InDesign, Acrobat, and those other two programs. I got a great deal through school where I got both complete suites for about $500! Full editions, fully licensed, the works! Now I just need to learn how to use them.
