ROBERT HOOD - Live

Music Man / M-Plant / Soma, Atmore, Alabama, Intense Minimal Techno

l_24e51b448b63770ae166d14acd82b62d.jpg

Robert Hood is without any question one of the most important figures that ever contributed to the world of techno, he is credited as the founding father & creator of minimalism within techno. In the early nineties he helped launch a couple of the most influential techno labels ever, some on his own, some with his partner at this time, Jeff Mills: Underground Resistance, Axis and M-Plant. He then worked as a "Minister of Information" theirafter with Mike Banks and Jeff Mills until seperating & focusing on his own label M-Plant, it didn't take long for Hood to set out on his own course and he made independence his strength. With his label M-Plant and sublabels Drama, Duet and Hardwax he left an ineradicable stamp on the evolution of the techno sound. After carrying out his operations mainly from the shadows for many years Robert Hood has recentely been on a head-on assault & is slated at some of the world's biggest techno events on a regular basis. As of now, this legend has intensified his schedule of appearances all over the world, especially in Europe and has shown no sign of slowing down.

Robert Hood needs little introduction. Founding member of the legendary group Underground Resistance with ‘Mad’ Mike Banks & Jeff Mills, also the "Axis" label along with partner Jeff Mills and his very own M-Plant imprint paved the way for a wave of stripped-down dancefloor minimalism that directed much of techno's path throughout the late Nineties. As Birmingham's Surgeon once remarked, 'When Hood released his pivotal 'Minimal Nation' EP in 1993, it was like a bomb went off.'

Robert Hood makes minimal Detroit techno with an emphasis on soul and experimentation over flash and popularity. Having recorded for Metroplex, as well as the Austrian Cheap label and Jeff Mills' Axis label, Hood also owns and operates the M-Plant imprint, through which he's released the bulk of his solo material. As part of the original UR line up whose influential releases throughout the early and mid '90s helped change the face of modern Detroit techno and sparked a creative renaissance. Infusing elements of acid and industrial into a potent blend of Chicago house and Detroit techno, UR's aesthetic project and militant business philosophy were (and remain) singular commitments in underground techno. Hood left Detroit (and UR) with Jeff Mills in 1992, setting up shop in New York and recording a series of 12-inch Eps. He began to concentrate on his own production 'Vision EP', the 'Riot EP' and X-103 were big stepping-stones for him as they were the first releases he worked 100% on his own. The X-101 to X-102, were Waveform Transmission projects with Mills for Tresor. He slowly progressed to work more and more on his own, but collaberated on some of the first Axis releases with label owner Jeff Mills as H&M (Hood & Mills) with ‘Tranquilizer EP’ and ‘Drama’.

He soon decided it was time for him to start his own label to focus on what was in his soul musically.and set up M-Plant in 1994 releasing singles such as "Internal Empire,", “The Protein Valve” "Music Data," and "Moveable Parts. "M-Plant is what I've always wanted to hear: the basic stripped down, raw sound. Just drums, basslines and funky grooves and only what's essential. Only what is essential to make people move. I started to look at it as a science, the art of making people move their butts, speaking to their heart, mind and soul. “It's a heart-felt rhythmic techno sound. M-Plant is just M. minimal"

Although his desire to remain underground has been replaced by an urge to reach a wider audience, Hood remains fiercely critical of artistic and economic movements destructive to inner-city communities and has combined his musical enterprises with outreach and social activist ends. With this in mind the seminal ‘Nighttime World Pt.1’ in 1995 and ‘Nighttime World Pt.2’ in 2000 incorporating Jazz, Soul, Hip Hop as well as Techno and House.

His debut Peacefrog album 'Point Blank' took Hood's hypnotic minimalism to entirely new depths and territories, whilst his last album 'Wire To Wire' takes his productions onto new levels of musicality and sophistication within the world of electronic music.

Most recently he embarked on a new project with Music Man records (Belgium) titled “HoodMusic”, bringing his unique style of minimal techno back to the forefront of what is going on in the music scenes today. These are a series of singles leading up to an album

At the beginning of 2008 London club Fabric asked him to do one of the mixes in their series. March 2008..........Fabric 039: Robert Hood

STEVE STOLL

& JEFF GREEN - Live pa

(Stoll live set featuring live chellist "Jeff Green" syncing various acoustics, eerie.)

Novamute / Music Man / Ableton / Proper NYC, Brooklyn, NYC, techno

l_db91a850e1848b48e5495f42ae0487c3.jpg

Techno legend Steve Stoll is debuting to Detroit one of his newest recording collaborations "Stoll & Green" featuring live classical cellist "Green". The collaboration takes Steve's musical creativity even further than before. The two seem to tap into something magical each time they perform together, fusing the world of live electronic techno soundscapes/patterns & live strings/acoustics in ways previously unexplored. Steve Stoll has been banging around the worldwide techno and electronic scene since the early 90s. His first 12" was released on Richie Hawtin's Probe imprint. Since that time, Steve has followed standard techno artist protocol by changing labels, handles and partners only slightly less often than his synth patches. The short list includes collaborations with Ken Ishii, Pete Namlook, Damon Wild and members of Front 242. His recordings can be found under Steve Stoll, Dark Man, Mr. Proper or Blunted Boy Wonder, and on a range of labels including Mute (London), Music Man (Belgium) and his own label, Proper NYC. Recently, Stoll released two new experimental recordings on Fax Records (Germany). He is also known for his remix work for the likes of Gary Numan, Hardfloor, Speedy J and DJ Rush. His newest recording work with Jeff Green are slated to release their debut album together on the infamous ambient label "Databloem" this fall, look out for it!

KYLE GEIGER - dex&efx

Drumcode, Fort Wayne, Indiana / Stockholm, Sweden, techno

l_7efad0b9fa48bbda84a960b22ce5ff35.jpg

Named in DJ Mag as the "breakthrough DJ of 2008" by Adam Beyer, Kyle's explosive decks and effects DJ sets bridge the divide between techno and minimal. Originally inspired by the harder, percussive stylings of the late 90's Swedish techno sound featured on seminal labels like Drumcode and Code Red, Kyle has witnessed the evolution of the genre as it morphed into a slower, groove based sound. Still loving the energy and power of the earlier phases of techno while embracing the genre's changes, Kyle has refined his productions into what very well may be a new breed of techno that pushes things forward for the next generation of techno to come.

The Indiana-based producer has now come full circle. With his initial projects completed and urged on by long time friends and minimal techno veterans JPLS and Skoozbot, a demo made it to Drumcode label manager Adam Beyer who was on the hunt for what he describes as a "modern techno sound". Beyer immediately put Kyle's tracks to the test at the 2007 Winter Music Conference and invited him onboard as a Drumcode artist. The future is proving to be a very promising place for Kyle Geiger as he is set to drop two highly anticipated releases on Drumcode and take his widely recognized DJ set around the world and to the next level.

DJ SHIVA - Live+DJ

Dubkraft / Shutdown Audio / Dubstep.fm / SUBterror, Indy, dubstep / techno

l_fbb00efbea5f3282e64aa7d3ae39fccb.jpg

For 13 years, Indianapolis techno mainstay DJ Shiva has brought a multitude of techno flavors to dancefloors nationwide. From electro to minimal, Chicago Jack to Detroit soul, the deepest to the hardest techno, her attention deficit disorder requires variety in both music and technique.

With her foray into the realm of dubstep, the same rules (or lack of them) apply. From straight up chest rattling bangers to skeletonized exercises in minimal dub to bits and pieces of electro and techno, it's all in the mix. Utilizing over a decade of experience on the ones and twos, combined with the flexibility and creative possiblities of Ableton Live to re-edit, loop on the fly and add effects and beats, Shiva brings a fresh approach to the dubstep palette.

From her techno releases on Philly's Internal Error and her remixes of Woody McBride and Ron S, to her recent release on Dubkraft/ShutDown Audio (w/ production partner Alien Pimp) and her radio show on Dubstep.fm, Shiva is determined not only to spread the eclectic sounds of dubstep and techno to new audiences, but to quite possibly live in a subwoofer someday.

JAMES PENNINGTON - 3 Tables

(aka Suburban Knight) Underground Resistance / Dark Print, Detroit, techno

l_02f9489eac17774e7f1aca0929875b5c.jpg

Saying that this man needs no introduction would truly be an understatement. Suburban Knight's (aka James Pennington) contributions to the world of techno, house and music in general are unequivocal. His influence on electronic music can hardly be summed up in a simple biography. Dating back to his early works as a member of Inner City for their two biggest hits "Big Fun" and "Good Life". He then made his way into the world of techno, forever changing it, with his killer "The Art of Stalking" on the fledgling Transmat Label. The heavy reverbs and abstractly angular synths were best described as musical cubism. His marriage of dark abstraction, melody, and menacing rhythms proved to have devastating effects on the dancefloor. He then went on to join the Underground Resistance camp as a producer and touring DJ. His first vinyl offering for UR was a massive techno hit "Noctorbulus Behavior." Thus reassuring his status as one of techno musicís truly great pioneers. On UR he also contributed to the "Dark Energy" release and his EP "By Night." And his track "Maroon" was undoubtedly one of the highlights of the Underground Resistance compilation album "Interstellar Fugitives. After releasing his first real album "My Sol Dark Destination" on Peacefrog he returns with an outstanding new double album on Submerge.

A misnomer? I thought this event might have something to do with magick, esoterica, or the occult...

I know, I know. Its more based on the theme of how the event will be setup, atmosphere, costumes of the staff, fluidity of the theatrics & show etc.. For this night everyones invited to simulate just the look & feel aspect of esoteric gathering put into a Halloween time event's theme, this is not a real gathering for the normal narrow circle of "enlightened", "initiated". I know naming a large scale event that the public as a whole is invited to kind of contradicts the title of the event, but hey, its just a party/theme for Halloween time, its not like this is serious sharing of real Esotericism. People aren't going to be walking into this feeling like Tom Cruise from Eyes Wide Shut or anything.. :wink

Anyways, simply put this is just a huge halloween gathering with those themes based on the decor/design etc to make the show more dark & surreal for Halloween time instead of the boring traditional guts & gore crap, not literally a gathering to exercise occult pratices & magick.. Allthough their will be some real esoterica in the design & whatnot, not sure everyone will know what any of it means though or any knowledge of it will be shared, or like anyone will even care to know at the party anyways.. haha... Its not like were actually involved in a secret mystery school or anything & are breaking law by giving away knowledge or anything.. My only credentials are that I study quantum physics and conspiracy & was born on Halloween.. lol

///sorry for the confusion.. :p

GOT-DAMN!

This will be worth whatever the $$$ is for Shiva and Pennington alone.

This is setup to realllllly be a show too, all the performers are doing something special for this.

For example your choices alone, Shiva & Pennington: Shiva is performing a special live&DJ set with heavy dubstep lased tek via all slew of live gear. (instead of her normal decks & mixer set) Pennington a special 3 table techno set on the harder side of things, which he doesn't perform often, & lets not even get into all the live sets, especially Steve Stoll having a world renowed chellist midi syncing various midevil sounding acoustics into his live set..!! :fun:

Its just going to be fire, fire, fire across the board all night long & our events always pack the house..

For decorations think: Bohemian Grove, sacrificial rituals, leafless trees, live owls, and fruit bowls garnished with animal skulls..

haha, not quite, but close...

yeah we don't condone the negative ritualistic activities of all the political elite Molech worshipping weirdo's that attend Bohemian Grove to the least, allthough the mock sacrafice & the cloaks they rock arrrrrre pretty alarming/frightening.. (scarier to me than alot of wack Hollywood commericialized Halloween crap at least)..

Um, are you aware of the kinds of rituals that go on at Bohemian Grove?

yes, world elite are into some really messed up ritualistic stuff, & were 100% against all that. In fact, even throwing this type of event to the "public" is the exact oposite of how they operate & kind of a political blow against them if you really think about it.. (mocking) Its not like people that make horror movies actually condone murder or the actions in the films, I don't know why people think its "SO" un called for & out of the question to talk about a group like the Bohemian Club, but like I said, were not trying to mimic "anything" that goes on at Bohemian Grove or ANY ritual practice, actually it never even came up in my mind when making/deciding the decor for this event, this is a big HALLOWEEN PARTY.. haha, nothing more. Were just talking about harmless DECOR / bells & whistles based on a generalization of the esoteric occult feel..

like I said were just trying to focus on the decor/staff costumes etc on some subjects that we think are more frightening & surreal than the normal boring blood & guts shit is all..

Now that I think of it.. haha. I guess an easier explaination I could have used for why's its called esoteric magick w/o admitting misnomer aspects would have been to just simply say because its "techno for those who know" & made up of a selected list of musicians that are so talented & artistic in their musical expressions that we consider it "magick" (musical alchemy of sorts).. kind of how Led Zepplin used to tour under the theme "Electric Magick".... :sorcerer:

// was able to comment on decor & setup a bit out of it tho, so it worked out for the best I guess..

    • I am currently floored.   FedEx did a massive 6 box delivery to the wrong address.  I had an autoship order scheduled to arrive before this past weekend.  Nothing showed up.  I contacted the order site and they had a link for the order...a photo of all my boxes thrown in the snow and up the sidewalk of a residence that was not mine.   You would think that at some point, the driver would have looked at the delivery address after they kept throwing box upon box at this location with no shelter from the elements.  They didn't even knock on the door to inform the residents that massive 65+ pound boxes were left all over their walkway.  Nope.  Just dumped them, took a photo as they were walking away and left.   I wonder what the person who found all of those misdelivered boxes must have been thinking when they saw them.  Maybe they kept everything to use, distribute or sell.  No idea.  No claim was filed on that end as of yet.   Fortunately for me, one of the sites that I ordered from, replaced everything at no extra cost.   Unfortunately, now I'm concerned for the other items yet to be delivered.   Needless to say, I'll be watching my notifications like a hawk.
