Shade Everdark
Mark Wahlberg is not and never will be Max Payne. I'm surprised Uwe Boll isn't directing this.
Troy Spiral (13)
The ads look really good. Unfortunately, John Moore is known for directing mediocre films. Also at least for some of us more diehard PC game geeks, Max is a semi-sacred cow. Awesome game. Could make an amazing movie. Again, unfortunately, old John seems to have edited the film down to make it more kid-friendly... ugh. Done at least semi-decently though, it could be a watch-it-once-action-flick-then-throw-away which can be good sometimes. Marky I don't think is a bad actor, i actually like him, he just seems to get perpetually teamed up with mediocre directors. I think he, like many other competent actors is a victim of his "status" (ex new kid, too popular, whatever) and his vehicles (mediocre/bad films, ex new kid, mainstream "sex idol"(?) etc) Oddly enough the ads for Body Of Lies reminded me strongly of the ads for Max Panye. Body Of Lies DOES sound like it should be good. Very good reviews + Ridley Scott. If it sucks It'll just be due to bad luck heh.

Should have said "ex 90210 member" or some such. But i have made that mistake before, for which I think it was errrr.. hunhee? That backhanded me for. I swore never to do it again. *breaks out into the New Kids dance*

He's just not the right guy to be playing Max Payne. I don't know who, among modern day actors, could do a credible Max Payne. If there is even such a thing as a credible Max Payne, since the game was sort of originally designed to be a bit tongue-in-cheek at the same time it was being over-the-top serious. Troy Spiral (13)
When i first your (shade) comment I felt an automatic agreement response kick in. Took me awhile to articulate why i wouldn't just automatically agree. All of it is prefaced by the idea that a Movie is just a movie called "Whatever" and whatever book/idea they ripped it off from is largely relevant in only the vaguest of ways. Mainly the reason they need the "based-on" idea I think is for marketing. Based-on automatically causes X number of extra buckets of popcorn to be sold. Otherwise, I'd be really pissed off at 99% of all movies I ever see. Often even the most amazing of films that are "based-on" , while good films, are only the roughest approximations. So the end product is just "an action movie" or "a comedy" with a beloved name stamped onto it. I'm pretty big on the idea that a good actor (to X level of skill) can play most any "action/effects" part if they fit the visual profile, previous work be darned. Who should play Max Payne would be similar to who should play batman. There isn't going to be a whole lot of "good acting" basically just need someone that can pull off the grim-mother-fucker thing, which, honestly if they can act their way out of a wet paper bag they should be able to do. Any of the bigger named non-fossils of roughly "guy movie" physical stature could do a part like this. If they did it even remotely right, we'd assume it to have a lot of voice overs/narration, perhaps cut down on the possible candidates. Probably the perfect choice would be William Holden via Hollywood Boulevard, but good luck on that one. Max should have been the Riddley Scott (with a 30 year younger Harrison Ford) project being released this year (or the James Cameron project next year) or.. or... lol Really in the end its an alchemy of the whole production team I try to leave my pre-con's at the door, otherwise any thing i "like" before I go in the door of a theater tends to suck. Wait, what is this "theater" thing? Is that similar to an Iphone?
Shade Everdark
That sparks a question, and possibly a moderate threadjack, but I am compelled to ask it anyway: If you were casting for the film, who would any of you out there want as Max Payne? Honestly? Nobody... I thought it would make an absolutely shitty movie. I played the game for the bullet time effects.. I thought the storyline was absolute drivel, the franchise does not deserve the wasted money going into a film. Nor does Marky deserve to have his name encrusted on it. However, I've always liked his acting and believe if anyone can do justice to it, he can.
Slept with ghost
I can't really think of anybody for Max but Courtney Cox should have been cast as Mona they look just like each other.
Slept with ghost
I am really not cool or hip, so maybe this is to be expected of me...wtf is Max Payne? comic book hero? video game? cartoon series? Movie looks "eh" anyways. Video game. It had a old detective movie feel to it but with more bullets.

Movie looks "eh" anyways. As mentioned, it's a video game. Think bad film noir meets action shooter. Then realize that the designers knew that they couldn't do the game straight with any sense of integrity, so they made it chock full of tongue-in-cheek humor at the expense of the film noir genre, the action shooter genre, and the mechanics of the game itself. It was a pretty darn good game.
