If we were to start a DGN commune, what would be your skill/trade to contribute?

I'm a farm girl by birth so I'm pretty all purpose. I sew, weave, croquet, I know how to make butter although it take a long ass time. Dad made a still to make gas for the cars, I say water it down and sell it as moonshine lol. I also chop fire wood.

I'm assuming you mean crochet, but I am having a really fun time imagining how bad ass you could be at croquet. :)

I can sew, weave, embroider and tailor. I know what herbs do what medicinally, and how to make soap and salves from animal fat. I know how to shoot, hunt, skin and butcher. I can cook damn near anything over a fire. i know how to fish with my hands and clean them once they're caught. I basically could live in the wilderness for some time and be ok.

I can hunt, trap, and dress animals. I can smoke meat and cook damn near anything. I can sew. I can design and build comfortable and utilitarian furniture.

I can do lots of things. What kind of outfit is this? Is this a group of refugees hiding out from an occupying army, or a bunch of hippiegoths doing it all for shits and grins?

What do you know that we don't, Jynxie? What do you know??

I can wake up early to feed the goats. I love animals, exept chickens--I'll kill chickens; I hate them mean dumb ankle-pecking super-territorial fuckers. I love getting my hands dirty, so put me to work in the compost pile. I love bugs, worms, insects, so stick me in the worm farm and apiary. I like to wash dishes--I promise I'll scrub under my fingernails first if I'm coming back from the compost pile.

I like to organize OTHER PEOPLE'S STUFF; I'm extremely lazy about my own--so if I leave it laying around, keep it or toss it: that'll learn me. But I can keep stock of the larder. I can find a home for all the miscellaneous shit that collects in every household. I can write minutes to all household meetings, keep notes commemorating events, make records of soil and weather conditions and all that other boring data tracking stuff. And I love love love love writing officious sounding documents like policy or procedural manuals, schedules. I can be the commune librarian/records keeper (excluding accounting type stuff--arithematic hates me).

I also love kids in about 2 hour doses, but can tolerate up to 4 doses daily provided I can have .5 hour sanity breaks.

I can prep food, but since I have the habit of forgetting what I put in the oven/on the stove and how long ago, I don't recommend leaving me alone in there. But if you have 40 lbs of potatoes to peel, I'm your girl. And I like making cookies.

I have a good memory for people's quirks, mannerisms, likes and dislikes and enjoy employing that knowledge to facilitate positive relations and a sense of well-being. That same knowledge has served me well in the past for linking up people whose needs and skill sets intersect.

I deal with crises fairly well and usually generate an A, B and C plan simultaneously--it's weird; I kind of disconnect emotionally and go all cerebral. I have had to call on those skills too many times for my liking.

Other randomness: I'm not an ace at it, but I can cut hair. I like to give massages. I can handbuild usable clayware. I have thrown pottery, but it usually comes out a bit too thick. Perhaps with more practice, though....

As for the rest, I'm usually a pretty quick learner. And I have a large repository of eclectic, surficial and, up to now, relatively useless knowledge gleaned from various media throughout my life that may, though still not likely, come in handy someday.

I don't know how much my skill set would contribute, but I have done a bit, and most standard farming things I can do (aside from slaughter/meat processing...never seen it done.)

Most of my skills are medical/science, so I don't know how often they would be needed (I would hope not often.)

Medical is important.

Besides, i am a klutz.

:p

Your job is to brap all day for our entertainment, how 'bout that? And when our cable internet goes out you can walk us through the process it takes to get us back online.

Phee knows teh musics.

And he can help the rest of the musician types co-ordinate and record. To make money for the commune.

its all good. :p

And aside from science, we need Meg for awesome grafitti. :p Rayne can fix mechanical car type things.

Sass, should we nominate you kid wrangler? You seem like the awesome, everybodys cool mom type.

Cher's ma is a teacher, right? Always need those.... and arent you learning to be a science person too, Cher?

I'm good at organizing corporations and licensing and research. I could probably figure out how to make our "commune" registered as a "religious" entity so we can live tax free.. and figure out other loop-holes in which we can all live in harmony, without gov't intervention.

OR we could turn part of the place into the COOLEST industrial club of all times, and call it HunObyl

My friends and I had thought about doing this because we found schools for sale on Ebay. All those schools had large kitchens, and other than furniture and beds, had all the conveniences you could consider to convert into a home. All our combined skills together would be great for a commune.

Stormknight: Umm... you're good with medical/science? UMMM you don't see this as one of the MOST important skills? we would need someone with medical experience so most things minor could be dealt with in house (especially if Phee and Meg are going to be blowing things up). Thank GAWD we got some nurses on staff too. :)

    • So I just got back from Happy Endings and I saw @DJ Saintthere.  He told me that after I got kicked out of High Dive that later on Mike also attacked him, and Mike and his crew were also kicked out.  Then we talked about the scene and possible upcoming gigs.  I hope something comes his way soon, as well as mine too.  With the current economy I think more club owners will be hungry to try more things like goth/industrial/other alternative nights.  I've also heard that GenZ isn't online dating and is actually going out into the world to meet people which may also help business owners, though they aren't drinking which doesn't really help much.  I think more places are going to need to start serving food and mocktails to make up the difference. Then Mike showed up at Happy Endings which I thought was highly likely because I hadn't seen him there in a while, and @DJ Aaron Hingst,@elektrosonik, and his husband Tim were all there too.  He did something else I wasn't expecting...  Which was he actually shook my hand and said it was good to see me, which caught me a little off guard.  He didn't apologize for anything but it's a start I think.  I told him I was sorry to hear about @djpleasurekitten's passing (which I was/am.  Despite the rift that ended up existing between us we were friends at one point.) So maybe he's moving on finally?  If so then I'm glad.  I'm still not sure if I'll ever go back, but it is at least a start, and it's nice to actually see he's trying to bury the hatchet in something other than my skull.
    • Stargate Universe, which everyone said sucked but I'm actually enjoying it? Like there are less jokes, but lots of dark humor, and people might actually die rather than have 10ft thick plot armor?  Yes please more of this!
    • Failbook is blocked so I can't see any of the info. "Oh you don't need to login to view!"
