This interesting little tidbit from this article caught my eye:

http://www.latimes.com/news/opinion/la-oe-...0,6298381.story

The thing is, it's not just residents of the Last Frontier who favor breaking away from the Union. According to a Zogby poll conducted in July, more than 20% of U.S. adults -- one in five, about the same number of American Colonists who supported revolt against England in 1775 -- agreed that "any state or region has the right to peaceably secede from the United States and become an independent republic." Some 18% "would support a secessionist effort in my state."

The motivation of these quiet revolutionaries? As many as 44% of those polled agreed that "the United States' system is broken and cannot be fixed by traditional two-party politics and elections."

There is nothing in any of those articles stating a state cannot secede from the Union.

States have to vote to join the Union, they have the same right to vote to leave it.

The Civil War was an illegal war begun by the Lincoln administration. I'm glad it happened, I love this country.. but it was still illegal.

The USA is huge with many states much larger than European countries. So why not split up into smaller countries? We'd be more like Europe.

...some peoples want to be more like Europe...some peoples do NOT want to be more like Europe...

...I want us to just start being HONEST peoples...at least the majority...

originally states had much more power. soon the fed started gaining its power over the states. states still hold a lot of power with there respected laws and choices. but its slowly being eroded away. i think the fear that all politicians across the board are compromised bye this "big brother" is in Everyones mind. and each campaign plays on this bye blaming the other of scandels, of bribes. and what not. no wonder we lost a lot of national pride.

states seperating from the union. wont happen. sorry unless a huge crisis that destroyed the economy Complely. it whould not happen.

I <3 the Declaration of Independance

I <3 the Constitution of the united STATES of America

I <3 the Bill of RIGHTS

nuff said.

Unfortunately all of those documents were superceded illegally by the patriot act, and Directive 51(or so the govt. claims)... and since Congress rolled over and did nothing, and in the case of the patriot act voted for it, it then became law.
