Fierce Critter
You can find articles on it on Yahoo, AOL's welcome screen, etc. I checked on Michigan - there are several suggested, including "army activity, Selfridge". Not sure if that means the entire base, or just the army aspect (is there any other aspect?) Uncanny coincidence. They're re-running last year's episodes of The West Wing on Sunday nights down here. Just last week, they ran an episode where they're in committee to consider military base closings. Hadn't been for that show, I wouldn't have realized what a big deal that really is - especially as to how it affects the economy of the cities & towns nearby. pixiefae
It's a major thing. Not many people know that the national guard units operate out of those bases. The governors in the states are fighting this not only for economic reasons but also because they have the power to call in the national guard in cases of emergency or natural disasters, just as the President has the power to call in the nat'l guard for oversea wars.
