Japan - Another weekend of photos. Part 5

This weekend I was invited to a barbecue. Tasty stuff, even if it is not quite your average American fare. Just as I left the apartment, this crazy little parade was wandering around the city streets. Apparently this weekend is the Koromo Festival - a celebration of the birth of the city of Toyota. (Koromo is it"s original name) I had to go into Nagoya to buy tickets for the Shinkansen (Bullet Train) so I snapped a few shots there.... Then, tonight they lit off fireworks to cap off the festival. I had a great view from my building.

Enjoy!

I'll take that yummy-looking piece of tentacle on the left of the grill, please. :drool

Oooh-- and what are those mollusks to the right? The big shells with the liquidy stuff in them? I see oysters, too, and what looks to be abalone. And what is that stuff on the top left, a mushroom of sorts? Did you try some of everything? :)

P.S. The little baby girl making the funny face is ADORABLE!!!!! I would like that one, please..

What is that round off white thingy on the lower side of the pic?

That fish market looks damn tasty but I could not deal with the smell of that much fish very long.

I forget what the off-white think is... Some kinda egg. Let me inquire at work. The market (It's called a "wet market") didn't smell that strong. I didn't really notice, anyways, and I have a fairly sensitive nose.

I tried pretty much everything there. Not bad at all. I even kept the shell. I think the one full of liquid is a snail or something like that. *shrugs* The octopus was good. I've had worse.

That little girl was cracking me up...

I've never much cared for octopus.. not thatit tastes bad, it's the rubberness of it.

Did the shell full of liquid stink alot? They look like Conch a bit, but that stinks to high heaven when you cook it.

The octopus that was in the Takoyuki (Octopus balls) was a lot less rubbery then other times I've had it. Maybe the freshness has something to do with it.

The liquid in the shells was soy sauce. They didn't smell while cooking but it did when I took it home and cleaned it out. It does look like a conch. Not sure what you call it's inhabitant.

You call the thing inside a conch shell a conch. :wink

I've seen those mushroom's on Iron Chef... can't remember what they are called.

A conch? Really? I guess I've only ever heard it referring to the shell. Never thought about the critter inside.

*Quick bit of reading*

Ah.. They are in the snail family.

I'm in love with the fireworks over the buildings...

Ha.. Those started up on my way home from getting groceries. I snagged my camera and tripod, went up to the top of my building and started shooting. There's an open balcony/hallway on one side of it that was perfect. I wish I could have been up a few floors higher, but those didn't exist.

Beautiful regardless...I have a love hate relationship with your pictures. I love to look at them, but I hate the feeling of yearning to be there...

Yeah, I'm being all sentimental...
