Blood: The Last Vampire

So manga fantasy action-adventure movies I'll have to read some reviews.

The original Buffy... er I mean Saya: The Baddie Slayer (Blood: The Last Vampire) definetly looks awesome. The mixture of CGI, Cell Shading and especially the light & shadow work is quite striking. Despite shortcommings in the compelling story department, the pretty factor won many, many converts.

That clip there doesn't seem to use the noir batman-like style that was a trademark of the anime. But, it is only just one clip.

Saya is a wooden, flat character and the only character of note. If you go in for eye candy (and who doesn't) it is worth the 50 minutes. It was a short movie; easy to watch just for the visual fun even if you would normally glaze over watching the tale.

I think we are up to about the 10,000th anime / manga storyline with chipmunk voiced, nubile slutty-with-a-wink, teenage girl in schoolgirl outfit, working toward some secret revenge / save the universe agenda story. Hell we were up to that count 20 years ago. The criticism could be leveled at many genres, this one just strikes me as particularly specific and overused. Not that it won't be good (or that it might not make it into my spank bank...oops.) just something that has started to annoy me in the last 5-6 years.

The reason for making this one into a movie escapes me. There is nothing here that couldn't be done by any first year writing student. Making pretty movies is something Hollywood is expert at, no need to "copy" this.

I'm a manga/anime fan from before dirt was invented, not trying to knock anime.

I guess someone is not watching fox news either

Well, Korea doesn't get Fox anyways, but if they did I would so totally tune into Fox and Friends. The snippets that The Daily Show plays seem hilarious.

Thanks for the links. I was actually able to play it fine with that first one, used the alternate link that's on the same page and it loaded the second time. I enjoyed watching it, had to take a break for an hour to finish it up cause of the usual megavideo pause thing but it worked great.

I would love to see this one again on a really big screen.
