n0Mad
In 1989, FASA Corp. published a roleplaying game called Shadowrun. This game takes place in 2071 and governments no longer exist. Instead, the world is controlled by 10 different mega-corporations. The characters work for one of these corps as Shadowrunners, or spies/terrorists. It's a fun game where you can explore a fictitious cyberpunk universe. But is it fictitious or is it prophesy? Today, Northwest Airlines and Delta Airlines officially merged. General Motors is buying Chrysler. And we already know about conglomerates like AOL/Time/Warner and other mega-corporations. If magic returns to our earth in 2011 followed by the VITAS plagues, then look for a computer crash in 2029 and start training your kids and grand kids how to shadowrun. William Gibson called it even earlier.
StormKnight (1)
I would concur that most of the cyberpunk/corporate part of the world is coming about. I personally would like to hold off on the magic emerging. I really, *really* not a big insect spirit fan unless unleashing them against my playing group. As a rigger I had once said when he realized what he was up against, "Fucking *chambers round in gun* bugs." Yes, I used to run Shadowrun. My second edition hardcovers are both signed by Tom Dowd. peelingchrome
Rumor has it that ShadowRun was/is based on Gibson's early books, but he wouldn't liscense the rights or something.... Back on topic, I've been saying this for years now. Everyone better marry into a NatAm family quick if it's true, cause ya'll don't want to be on the recieving end of the Great Ghost Dance. And maybe start to learn how to live without a papertrail, too... BTW, anyone know that fixer from Boondock Saints? Could be handy...
