Yay! Obama won! Everyone be prepared for economic collapse and an attack on American soil when he stupidly pulls our troops out of Iraq and forgets all about it! YAY!

(When all this does go down, you'll find me living off the land in the middle of nowhere, preferably another country. Nobody likes the republican who says "I told you so" and is actually right.)

I was talking to my mom today.... she used to march in the 60's for civil rights activism and such...

She said that she was so happy and overwhelmed by the victory of Obama that she actually (and unexpectidly) actually started crying with joy that we had come so far as to have a black man as president. And she also just thinks he is a really good guy... she liked McCain too just Obama more

Economic collapse? Attacks on American soil?

We've lived through this already.

It's going to get worse now.

I agree... it will get worse for a time.... the kind of destructive momentum that was started in the last 8 years would be impossible to just stop all of a sudden.... no matter which candidate won.

Yeah, Congress had nothing to do with that.

They weren't the one's who initiated the war in Iraq. Once the troops were there, WTF was congress supposed to do, deny funding and support? They would have been crucified. And yeah... they should have shown some spine and told Bush to fuck himself and bring the troops back.

Unfortunately, that's the nature of the beast. I agree that it's going to get worse before it gets better, regardless of who would have won.

The thing that I'm seeing flying around here and other places is the idea that "Now Obama is elected, the country is going to go to hell in a handbasket".

For those of you that believe this, or are concerned about constitutional rights being stripped (gun ownership, being sent to re-education resorts, etc), I have a challenge:

Let's pick a mutually-agreeable time period - If the country AS A WHOLE* isn't doing better or on the road to doing better by the end of the time period, I'll send each of you a delicious cookie-basket. If things have gotten better, I'd like a public retraction of statements made on the board today.

Do I have any takers?

* Throughout the country, not you specifically. I.e. - the economy has recovered/is recovering, unemployment is down...not whether or not you personally have a job, etc.

The War Powers Act requires that the president notify Congress within 48 hours of committing armed forces to military action and forbids armed forces from remaining for more than 60 days without an authorization of the use of military force or a declaration of war.

Try again.

the economy/unemployment has nothing to do with the 2nd amendment.
