creatureofthenyte
I think it is truly awesome to have an African American as president. People are right, we can't fix all of the damage to the economy right away. But the current economic mess, is Not all Bush's fault. The housing market, is largely to blame. FannyMae & FreddyMac. I would like to see stuff actually get done now though. Instead of Republicans and Democrats in congress squabbling and doing nothing for the country. If Obama and the democrats can actually get some work done, I Might be impressed.

n0Mad
Just curious... (honestly curious not sarcastic)... but why do you (or anyone) need an assault rifle if you are not... er assualting people? It's called a Bill of Rights, not a Bill of Needs. The Second Amendment was put into place not to protect hunting or sporting. It was written so men (and women) could protect themselves against all threats, foreign and domestic. While our soldiers were off in Europe fighting WWII, Japan seriously considered a land attack against America but decided not to because the knew the citizenry would take up arms and fight back. Military grade arms that it is our right as citizens to use to protect ourselves and our country. So yes, an assault rifle is designed for assault, but not so we can assault others with them, but to use to protect ourselves when we are assaulted. Why do you need a seat belt? An air bag? A fire extinguisher? Do you plan on getting in an auto accident or having a house fire? Do you leave the batteries out of your smoke detector most of the time, only putting them in during dry conditions when you think you might need it? I don't plan on getting assaulted either, but I want to be just as prepared in case it happens, and I have plenty of news stories to show that it does. I love my family too much to watch them get beaten, raped, murdered, and my house torched (and the case where this happened, the perpetrators were armed with nothing more than screwdrivers and a knife). The most effective weapon to save and preserve life is a firearm, and one of the most effective firearms for home defense is the villainized assault rifle. So you are saying that an assualt rifle and a seatbelt are kind of the same... ? Meh another thread as to whether guns save more lives then the end I guess. I get the Bill of Rights angle... I just... I guess I don't understand I don't think I am built in a way that gets the need to have an AK-47 as a means of nonviolence... But each to there own I guess.... as long as the weapons don't get stolen or fall into the wrong hands

Our founding fathers have specifically said that citizens should rebel by ARMS against our government if they should try to take our freedoms away. If you allow them to take your freedom to bear arms, then they'll eventually take everything else and you won't have a means to resist. And you know what? You'll have deserved it. I was taking statements that I've seen on the board today and incorporating them into the challenge. You are correct, the 2nd amendment and the economy are different things. I'm not looking for an apology - what do you need to apologize for? I'm thinking more along the lines of "I was wrong when I said...." So - Goth Brooks is in for guns for the next four years. I already stated mine earlier ... The President takes an oath to uphold the Constitution. As long as Obama does that, I will support him as our new president. Goth Brooks
Er.... First picture on the left hand upper side Hitler is 1/8 of the dictators represented who knew that gun control was an effective means of stifling and controlling citizens. Nazism is 1/8 of the governments represented who knew that gun control was an effective means of stifling and controlling citizens. Godwin's Law is called when Nazism/Hitler is specifically brought up.

That the kind of wrong hands we're talking about? Show me the percentage of assault rifle owners who've down that versus the number of assault rifle owners who've used them while defending themselves against legitimate attackers please. If the first outnumbers the second, I'll gladly sign off on an assault rifle ban.

Destroit
... like people who open fire through their door at trick-or-treating families? That the kind of wrong hands we're talking about? I think when we're talking about someone who is crazy enough to kill a family who stops at their door trick or treating it doesn't really matter if they have a gun or not, someone that insane would probably slaughter them with anything, like a knife for instance. People that nuts kill with whatever impliment they can find if need be usually.
Slogo
I don't own any guns (mostly cause I'm clumsy and I'd probably scratch my back with it with the safety off) but I don't see anything wrong with peaceful, law-abiding citizens owning guns. I think the people who make it their entire personality are dumb. But my opinion falls somewhere near Ron Pauls "The people have the right to protect themselves with arms, but if my nextdoor neighbor is building a 500 pound bomb I'd like to keep an eye on that".
