Simon Bar Sinister
forget the medical argument It's my body... fxck off this. speaking of which, there was a symposium yesterday somewhere in the area (I think it was somewhere downriver) where people were taught how to go into the med-mari business without straying from the confines of the law. StormKnight (1)
If it does become legal, I don't see it dropping immediately below Schedule II on the Controlled Substances Act. The most common indications would probably be appetite activation in cancer patients, and pain attenuation in Chronic Pain Syndrome and again, cancer patients. In other words, it is going to be strictly controlled, due to a combination of bad history (fabricated or not,) and the stigma that is still perceived in using it. more on CPS As for my desires for legality or not; I would like to see studies that can go through The Cochrane Review with the stuff. This panel reviews as many studies as possible to see if they are rigorously designed and if the data is presented and analyzed correctly correctly. This serves for the basis of evidence-based medicine ("The best studies that we have currently indicate...") versus "cookbook medicine" (e.g. giving every man between 15-80 a colonoscopy for colon cancer "because I said so." (there are certain criteria that state the proper ages (evidence-based medicine indicates a scope should happen at age 50 for most men, or age of a relative that had colon cancer minus 10 years. It grows that slow, and polyps removed at that time can actually be curative.)) If the studies can withstand the review, fine; let it come into the market. But as I said above, it will probably not drop below Schedule II for some time. However, if it is no longer a taboo (Schedule I) thing to do studies with, studies can be formed that can prove one way or the other to modern medicine to be good or bad for medical problems, which could move it on the Schedules. Cochrane Collaboration main page Cochrane Levels of Evidence Trying to look at the subject as objectively (and hopefully realistically,) as possible. *shrug* Edited September 29, 2009 by StormKnight

jynxxxedangel
Definitely FOR it. I honestly don't understand why it's still illegal, aside from the beer and pharmaceutical companies lobbying heavily against it.
Rev.Reverence
Chronic pain syndrome (CPS) is a common problem that presents a major challenge to healthcare providers because of its complex natural history, unclear etiology, and poor response to therapy. CPS is a poorly defined condition. Most authors consider ongoing pain lasting longer than 6 months as diagnostic, and others have used 3 months as the minimum criterion. In chronic pain, the duration parameter is used arbitrarily. Some authors suggest that any pain that persists longer than the reasonable expected healing time for the involved tissues should be considered chronic pain. Geese...that's not very long to have a constant pain..I spend at least that long every year in mad pain, from back injuries incurred in my formative years....I win. ...hey every one that has been against/still against........we won, 63% of the state voted our way ...stfu...we won, fair & square... MMMA norml MI You can start here.. SO MANY peoples have known some looser pot head, that did not want to do anything but to sit down & be a lazy fuckin' lump...fuck that guy...& is it not an act of prejudice to hate, degrade, or demean the resat of the smokers in the world? You gotta' stop, & ask yourself honestly...is this person just a useless ass hole... NOTE: George Washington is on the list. Also, 99% of anyone that ever went to a wedding in India...they make the kiff into a milk drink...mmmmmgood. seeing G*D good It is SERIOUSLY...very seriously fucked up, how many peoples will stay on the side against something, even though it is already here....so again...I say...stfu, WE WON! Darkmatter
but do you think i can have a research group thats willing to study the postive effects on people with adhd i really think it helps me Same here i've had adhd, PTSD, and depression since i was a kid. I smoke medical grade sativas regularly along with low dose anti-depressants and i have not been hospitalized in 4 years.
phee
Phee's simplified opinion. Anything can be abused... it is not the fault of the non sentient material what it is used for. Medical uses = good. Recreational/other excuses = Bad.
Eevee
I don't think its necessarily bad to do it recreationally. I do...but I don't do it all the time and I don't abuse it. I'm for it. Although, for those like me with anxiety disorders...you can get it to help with the anxiety, but there is also a chance it can make you have a panic attack (I've had marijuana both calm me down...and make me have a panic attack...though the day when it gave me a panic attack was a very bad day all together). So I can see where it may not help. I don't use it calm me down...usually. I rely mostly on breathing exercises and healthy thinking when I am having an anxiety attack. Darkmatter
you can get it to help with the anxiety, but there is also a chance it can make you have a panic attack Yep, studies have shown that about 30% of people get that "paraniod" anxious feeling when they smoke. IMO if you are one of those 30% you should not use pot medically. Then again i am no doctor.

Soulrev
I think I might have ADD. Hey did you guys see that new Jeep Grand Cherokee? I think I might have ADD.. .. Lol.. Fact: Age 17 I took the GED test, while stoned. Both days, I blazed one before I went in. I scored a 674/700. 26 points away from a perfect score. I had the "highest" grade the county had seen in 10 years. Just throwin' that out there.

the_fairy_gothmother
Well I am not huge fan of it. I have tried it here and there and like pain meds even its seems to have little effect on me so I can live without it. My parents on the other hand just got their licenses for their problems. MS and back injuries from car accidents. My moms had several back surgeries. Thing is with it being legal and them able to grow their own now they wont waste money they need for bills. Its been sad to see that they have to spend money buying it illegally so now that they can grow their own and smoke it to help themselves I at least know it will financially relieve some of their pressure. However they still smoke tobacco and I rather see them quit smoking that. Am I for it well as long as you really need it. I guess it dont matter to me all that much as people are gonna do what they wanna do. I think however the big drugs the dangerous ones that can destroy you like meth, and heroin and crack should be the drugs our country does fight against. Nothing good comes out of using those. As for me well I am on synthroid its a hormone my body needs to function and for me to live. That does not have any adverse side effects if you actually need it and take it as prescribed. It does nothing to your liver and kidneys ect because its a natural hormone your body needs not really a poisonous chemical. I am on mood stabilizers and anti depressents. I hate having to use them too. Since nothing else seems to work yes including pot I take them and finally have things fine tuned to work for me. Will I ever be able to live without them I dont know. I do have severe mental conditions not just a little depression but Bipolar, Borderline Personality disorder, PTSD, and major depressive and anxiety disorders. I have along with my meds which I am supervised by a doctor, psychiatrist and clinician along with therapy both group and individual been able to function better taking my meds properly. Will it mess me up some other way. Sadly probably yes but I dont see any other way of fixing those problems and so I legally take things. I am not a pain pill popper. I rarely have asprin on hand. I am not one who gets a ache pain or headache and goes omg I need a asprin. I dont buy motrin or pills when I get mense cramps. The only time I ever get pain meds is if I am in extreme pain from injury or bad tooth ache. And I tend to use very little of these. Even when I broke my foot and tore my ankle up I had loratabs and vicodins and stuff but I barely used them and would suffer discomfort and aches because I think in a way pain does not bother me all too much its a friendly reminder that something is wrong and needs to be fixed. I have a decent tolerance to pain and so I just deal with it and I dont even complain unless someone makes a ridiculous request of me. So hey let the pot heads grow their own and do their thing really. Those countries in Europe who allow it experience less crime, and happier lives. The places where drugs like that are legal the people are so much happier and mentally and emotionally healthy all around as well as physically and financially. I used to hate pot and people smoking it but I have grown up and seen the pros and cons and grown less judgmental as well. As long as it dont harm me or someone directly well I am not gonna say much or hold a higher opinion either way. I remain simply neutral.

Lillylu29
thats ok thoes who are ignorant enough to say hateful things like that about people will get the karma they deserve. I am thankful everyday my mother smoked pot to ease her pain, to help her eat despite the hell she went threw taking cemotherapy for cancer. A women who didnt deserve the pain she went threw, did the best she could. in the end I think the pot helped her do everything she wanted to do and more right to the end. When the Dr. told her she had only 6 months and lasted 2 years. She died a few days after easter in 03 when she took to her bed and could no longer move wasent able to smoke, eat, she died peacefully. I am all for it.
