Paper Hearts
When the routine bites hard And ambitions are low And the resentment rides high But emotions won’t grow And we’re changing our ways, Taking different roads ...love, love will tear us apart again "Why is the bedroom so cold?" -Turned away on your side "Is my timing that flawed?" -Our respect run so dry Yet there’s still this appeal that we’ve kept through our lives Love, love will tear us apart again you cry out in your sleep: "All my failings exposed" Get a taste in my mouth As desperation takes hold. Is it something so good? Just can’t function no more... But love, love will tear us apart again
JaneDead
i have been trying to think of this one for a long time. and came up with nothing. but then i remembered all the times i listened to the cure and thought it was so sad. i think the cure is some of the saddest music i have ever listened to. partly because of the time in my life that i was listening to it most. and it is the combination of the lyrics and the music and his voice. Kiss The Midget
Boy Sets Fire-my life in the knife trade how many times have i noticed that are eyes hardly ever meet from your judgment seat you can feel the anger for my very being fill me in on when you became such a big part of my life that i should bother with all your lies designed to bring me down wrong again don't depend on any reaction again i remember the icy walls that shot from nowhere and i can see every lie you ever told yourself you bleed me dry and i don't ask why but I'm left with the dust Judas kiss i dismiss thank you all for this i am untouched, i am untouched wait again I'm not through with the screaming i contend that you've got nothing better to do then trade my life for a barrel of gold find someone else before i get to old if i live my life for aesthetic gain will you repay me with all your shame i can see every light inside your brain go on every time that i walk by for nods and whispers your comfort in my suffering is no longer disturbing I'm lost beyond your petty stopwatch in life's real time wait again I'm not through with the screaming i contend that you've got nothing better to do then trade my life for a barrel of gold find someone else before you get to old if i live my life aesthetic gain will you repay me with all your shame don't get up i was only leaving the room and when the door of your judgments swings back around again maybe i will stop to watch your ass I'll go on my way I've seen quite enough of too many childish games I'm ashamed of every moment that i ever gave them the time of day all the worst of enemies are somehow always good friends that used to be

Nienna
Cuts You Up~ by Peter Murphy damn... :erm <{POST_SNAPBACK}> That song is incredible. Almost anything by Leonard Cohen, especially earlier stuff invokes strong emotion in me too.

Fierce Critter
Oh, MM - I love you. I've been all over the Music forum trying to get people to listen to Nick Drake's music. We've got just about everything he ever did in a boxed set. I find his story sadder than his music, though. But if we were to separate "saddest" from "most beautiful", "Day Is Done" would definitely be in my top 3. My pick for saddest would be some Polish music I've heard at Sweetest Heart of Mary Church in Detroit (it's the one with double steeples you can see off I-75 between Mack & Warren). I have no idea what they're singing, but it sounds funereal and depressing.

LuluVox
I have a ton in mind, but this one's definitely up there... The Smiths: I Know It's Over Oh Mother, I can feel the soil falling over my head And as I climb into an empty bed Oh well. Enough said. I know it's over - still I cling I don't know where else I can go Oh ... Oh Mother, I can feel the soil falling over my head See, the sea wants to take me The knife wants to slit me Do you think you can help me ? Sad veiled bride, please be happy Handsome groom, give her room Loud, loutish lover, treat her kindly (Though she needs you More than she loves you) And I know it's over - still I cling I don't know where else I can go Over and over and over and over Over and over, la ... I know it's over And it never really began But in my heart it was so real And you even spoke to me, and said : "If you're so funny Then why are you on your own tonight ? And if you're so clever Then why are you on your own tonight ? If you're so very entertaining Then why are you on your own tonight ? If you're so very good-looking Why do you sleep alone tonight ? I know ... 'Cause tonight is just like any other night That's why you're on your own tonight With your triumphs and your charms While they're in each other's arms..." It's so easy to laugh It's so easy to hate It takes strength to be gentle and kind Over, over, over, over It's so easy to laugh It's so easy to hate It takes guts to be gentle and kind Over, over Love is Natural and Real But not for you, my love Not tonight, my love Love is Natural and Real But not for such as you and I, my love Oh Mother, I can feel the soil falling over my head Oh Mother, I can feel the soil falling over my head Oh Mother, I can feel the soil falling over my head Oh Mother, I can feel the soil falling over my ... Shade Everdark
I always bring this song up, I can't help myself. Loreena McKennitt's "The Highwayman". If you don't want to slit your wrists by the time this song is done, you aren't human. I also have a soft spot for Peter Gabriel's "Red Rain". Guest MsMaldoror
Yeah, I have the box set too. Great stuff. I read his biography a few years ago, but it seems to be a lot of speculation. There have been rumors for years about a British movie being done about his life. I'm just amused by the fact that he overdosed on antidressants after giving his mom a copy of a book by Camus. lullaby1031
Not many people like them, but I do so... Cold's Wasted Years, even though a lot of their songs have repeatative lyrics. There's a game life plays makes you think you're everything they ever said you were Like to take some time Clear away everything I've planned Was it life I've betrayed for the shape that I'm in It's not hard to fail it's not easy to win did I drink too much could I dissapear and there's nothing that's left but wasted tears There's nothing left but wasted years If I could change my life Be a simple kind of man try to do the best I can if I could take the sides I'd dreail every path I could I'm about to die won't you clear away from me give me strength to fly away There's nothing left but wasted years x3
LuluVox
Siouxsie and the Banshees: Forever Infinity stretches unlimitlessly Countless days pass by immeasurably Anniversaries gutter in the maelstrom Whirling a snowstorm of lustrous millennium We couldn't stay together This couldn't last forever Senses dissolve into soliloquies Flooding ascent in synchronicity But we couldn't stay together I knew this wouldn't last forever Forever just one more tie then never This is the last string to sever On and on yes it goes on and on I could stay wherever I would last forever Forever just one more tie then never This is the last string to sever Forever never forever This is the last string to sever I have lost you for ever and ever
LuluVox
Tom Waits: Alice It's dreamy weather we're on You waved your crooked wand Along an icy pond with a frozen moon A murder of silhouette crows I saw And the tears on my face And the skates on the pond They spell Alice I disappear in your name But you must wait for me Somewhere across the sea There's a wreck of a ship Your hair is like meadow grass on the tide And the raindrops on my window And the ice in my drink Baby all I can think of is Alice Arithmetic arithmetock Turn the hands back on the clock How does the ocean rock the boat? How did the razor find my throat? The only strings that hold me here Are tangled up around the pier And so a secret kiss Brings madness with the bliss And I will think of this When I'm dead in my grave Set me adrift and I'm lost over there And I must be insane To go skating on your name And by tracing it twice I fell through the ice Of Alice And so a secret kiss Brings madness with the bliss And I will think of this When I'm dead in my grave Set me adrift and I'm lost over there And I must be insane To go skating on your name And by tracing it twice I fell through the ice Of Alice There's only Alice (edited to make the most of a double-post)
