Rev.Reverence
You HAVE to bleach it almost to pure white if you want vibrant colors. The darker it is, the less vibrant it will turn out. Think about if you painted water colors on a dark canvas. You won't see them much. On white, they're bright. Dyes are translucent so it's the same effect.. NOOOOOOOO! EVERYBODY..maybe...you will listen to the friek that has had the coloured hair for 17 years...maybe, you will ignore me, that would be stupid though.....if you goto bleach white in 1 sitting...your hair WILL become brittle...it will snap at a length of approximately 5 inches...maybe less...(without the PROPER conditioning treatments). ...a yellowish blond is all that is necessary to arrive at a bright colour... IF, you have no experience bleaching hairs...just call REV...in 17 years, I have only burnt 1 set of hairs...& that was like 12 years ago...& she had REALLY LO)NG HAIR...& MADE me bleach it to much...& it was snappin' off at 5-6 inches...nightmare, & the only one I've had so far. EEVEE...NICE hairs Doll...
Msterbeau
I didn't say in one sitting, and I didn't say anything about the healthiness of the hair afterwards. And I'm going to disagree with ya on the light yellow. That will still tend to dull the color. It's down to healthiness vs. vibrancy. Pick yer poison. Eevee
What kind of dye did you use to get that vibrant blue, Eevee? Last time I tried to do blue it didn't come out nearly that blue. I didn't bleach it before, either. Kinda afraid to bleach my hair, did it once and it was like brittle horse hair after that... Yes, like Rev said...you really don't have to bleach it that much. I am a natural blonde...but I also had highlights. It was this color of blonde (there were a little more highlights on top) when I dyed it (so I did no bleaching beforehand)... And, as your know, it came out like this... I used Special Effects dye from Amaltheas Attic. I chose the color called Blue Mayhem. EEVEE...NICE hairs Doll... Thank you.

Well, either that or let the melanin run out that colors your hair as it grows, and let nothing but air pigment it naturally (the white in naturally white hair is air pockets.) Unfortunately, it takes a long time for that to happen, the pigmentation may be variable, and the hair has a risk of falling out on its own beforehand. Guest Megalicious
Hm...I'm thinking about color combinations I can do with my blue hair...any ideas? Well first off Miss Eevee you are going to have to either wait for the blue to fade and strip the rest of the blue out, or be sure that the color you mix it with has the same base. I really do like the idea of Blue/ purple. But it depends on what blue, and from the pics I have seen I think it would look super cute with dark purple underset and a few streaks. Taryhn
I have been seriously considering dying my hair black and purple for Halloween. But I'm not necessarily sure I still want it around for Christmas... Any good temporary or semi-permanent colors out there?

I talked with my friend and I think I am going to do that idea...it'll be sweet. I used the rest of my hair dye today because it was fading a little and I'm going to need to buy more anyways when I do the blue and purple, so yeah... pomba gira
Always wanted fancy-colored hair, but bleaching it down to the required lightness just destroys my hair. I had a purple streak done a couple years ago but it lasted such a short time, wasn't really worth the money. And not an option now I'm back to the dreadlocks. Sigh. Best I can do now is get some of the fancy extension thingies... Cute... but... A month later I did a hair show at Vidal Sassoon in San Francisco... 1985 Edited October 17, 2009 by pomba gira

If you do purple with the blue, you don't really have to take out the blue Though lighten some sections a little with 10 weight developer.. That would do for that project. Rayne
Still the hot pink from before. I won't do purple or blues for any length of time before I change because of my experience with the fading (less than two weeks and it's changed colours or gone). But ... as I said before, those colours aren't acceptable in the courtroom, and dying my hair black on a whim is not my idea of fun when I have to strip it out shortly after because I look horrible with black hair ... so I deal with different shades of reds. Lately it's been the darker (but bright) shades, opposed to my usual lighter bright shades.
