I think I am on the wrong end of the curve....*again* I actually have had more time to play in the last few months than I have had in years. I have actually had time to pursue things.

When the credentialing body governing your job says you can work a maximum of 80 hours a week (down from 100+,) I suppose it is a minimal improvement. I straddled the changeover, and the difference is night and day with those 20+ hours gone (have worked both time "limitations.") Now work is in progress to limit residents to 60 hours a week. Most residencies freaked at the 80 hour week because "lack of training," and the like.

Me? Sleep is a good thing, but the down time is boring me to tears.

Well, now that I am in a fellowship, I can make the time.

When I was in residency, I was 1. too far away from any good club (4 hours minimum,) and 2. working pretty close to the limit.

Though when I do get into anesthesiology, aside from the 4 months of ICU, I should be pretty good balance of hours/time off.

The rule of thumb is that you have time for residency and ONE other thing in your life. Since I have no family, I chose being a social character.

well i can see 80 hours a week fairly balenced if weekends are put in place. 12 hours a day 7 days a week can be managed. now if it was only 5 days a week at 16 hours. thats different
