Through a rapist's eyes...

Keys are NOT a deterrent because you have to get really close to the attacker to use them as a weapon.

Even pepper spray is really only effective within 3, maybe 5 feet.

10) Several defense mechanisms he taught us are: If someone is following behind you on a street or in a garage or with you in an elevator or stairwell, look them in the face and ask them a question, like what time is it?, or make general small talk: 'I can't believe it is so cold out here,' 'We're in for a bad winter.' Now you've seen their face and could identify them in a line-up; you lose appeal as a target.

Questions are best because those also disrupt the other person's OODA Loop. But that's too lengthy to discuss here and deserves its own topic.

12) If you carry pepper spray (this instructor was a huge advocate of it and carries it with him wherever he goes), yell I HAVE PEPPER SPRAY and holding it out will be a deterrent.

I mentioned pepper spray above, am also an advocate of it, and also carry some with me. Not all pepper sprays are made the same, however. The key ingredient to pepper spray is oleoresin capsicum which is why pepper sprays are commonly referred to as OC spray or simply OC. The legal limit of OC concentration in a spray in Michigan is 2%. You might think that since other states allow up to 5% or 7% that these sprays are stronger or more effective. Such is not the case. The only thing a higher concentration does is prolong the effects. The important factor is the Scoville Heat Units (SHU) of the spray or how "hot" it is. Some sprays with only 2% OC have a higher SHU than some with 15%.

There are only two brands of OC spray I recommend. The first is Fox Labs. These sprays have the highest SHU on the market (5.3 million). This OC doesn't just work on pain complience; it permeates the skin and swells the mucus membranes in the eyes, throat, and lungs making it hard to see and breathe. This is nasty shit that any perp will be hating life if he's sprayed with. The majority of police departments across America issue Fox Labs brand OC to their officers and even the 2% Michigan formula is more potent than any other brand you can find. The second brand I recommend and the one I carry is Spitfire. This is the most unique dispenser on the market. It is intuitive to use, easy to aim, can be shot from the hip, and can be shot over your shoulder with little risk of getting yourself in the face unlike the other brands' standard dispensers. It's only 2 million SHUs but that's still plenty potent and the dispenser superiority makes up for it in my opinion.

All that said, however, OC isn't the be all/end all. I have personally witnessed a guy take a full can of very potent spray (in addition to OC it also contained CS Military Tear Gas) to the face and shrug it off to keep on fighting. I have viewed a police video of an officer spraying an entire can of OC into a guy's face, the guy shrugged it off, drew a gun, shot the officer down, and drove his vehicle over the downed officer as he fled the scene. Yes, OC is great stuff and wards off most attackers, but for some it just pisses them off and they keep coming at you. OC should not be relied on as the only weapon to save your life. What it is and should be used for is a deterrent to buy you time and distance to either draw a weapon more suitable to the situation such as a firearm and/or to flee the scene. Don't just spray the guy and think it's over. Spray the guy, stay alert, and keep on fighting or fleeing as necessary.

Another item I recommend all people carry is a tactical flashlight. I'm not talking one of the huge ass six D cell mag lights. Technology has increased to such a point where a tiny little two battery (123A lithium photo batteries) flashlight with an LED bulb is far more potent than the former monstrosity could ever be. SureFire is the most prolific company of these flashlights but other good ones can be found from Insight, Fenix, and others. This is the one I carry. It's a Surefire knock-off from South Africa. Anyway ...

The average household flashlight produces about 20-30 lumens of light. A tactical flashlight produces from 80-120+ lumens. This much light kills night vision and overloads the retinas causing temporary blindness. A light with a strobe function disorients the attacker and some lights have strike bezels which can be used as a contact weapon. Plus, a flashlight is a utility device that can help you see into your car before entering, light up dark stairwells, etc. If I could only take one item with me, either my flashlight or my OC spray, I would choose my flashlight.

13) ...

14) ...

15) ...

It only takes 8 pounds of pressure to rip somebody's ear off. A punch to the adam's apple could kill him. An upward strike to the nose with the heel of your hand could kill him. As mentioned by others, pressing your thumbs into his eyes trying to push all the way back to his brain is very effective and yes, go for the balls. No mercy. Also, kick his kneecaps trying to bend them the wrong direction. Kick his shins in a downward scraping motion. Flail around like a rabid wolverine.

5 A few notes about getting into your car in a parking lot or parking garage:

A.) Be aware: look around you, look into your car, at the passenger side floor, and in the back seat.

Remember that flashlight I recommended?

7. If the predator has a gun and you are not under his control, ALWAYS RUN! The predator will only hit you (a running target) 4 in 100 times. And even then, it most likely WILL NOT be a vital organ. RUN, preferably in a zigzag pattern!

Taken from the April/May 2007 Handguns Magazine: "90 percent of gunfights occur at distances of nine feet or less ... 80 percent of that 90 percent happen within three feet ... At those ranges, only one shot in 10 hits the adversary" (p. 54).

I have personally witnessed a couple police officers shoot at targets 25 feet away from them, taking slow aimed shots, and neither one of them could get hits within the 9 inch center ring (about the size of a paper plate). I have seen police video of a man shot multiple times with various calibers from handguns and rifles and he kept on shooting back.

Yes, if your attacker pulls a gun, run quickly in an erratic (that's "erratic" not "erotic" dorks =P ) pattern. More than likely, he won't shoot. If he does, more than likely, he will miss. If he doesn't, more than likely, it will be not fatal and you can keep running.

Well, I think I covered everything I wanted to cover. Any questions?

I don't think he should even have a chance to get caught. I think the woman should forgo the elbow strikes, groin blows, and pepper spray, and just shoot the fucker dead with a concealed carry weapon. Muggers, give him your wallet and if he still threatens you, shoot to stop the threat. But rapists ... the threat doesn't stop until he's dead.

(Disclaimer: The preceding statement is the opinion of the character Spook and does not necessarily represent the views of DGN, the members of DGN, and Spook's alter ego Scott Drebus. Only shoot when the perpetrator meets the three criteria of use of deadly force applicable to your state laws, mostly - means, opportunity, and willingness; only use deadly force when retreat is not possible or your state has castle doctrine and/or stand your ground legislation i.e. no duty to retreat laws; only shoot to stop the threat.)

i agree if its possible the woman or man in a odd case should be able to kill the fucker HEY thats it that should be the punishment if he hasnt been killed already he should be bound to something and the victim should be allowed to do whatever she feels is a proper punishment

IE beating, torture, or a quick murder if she feels fit....

i wont go into detail and leave examples but you get the idea spook

YUP...what is this OODA...& where is the thread to discuss it in my Bro?

If my two hours of typing yesterday wasn't enough, now you want a discourse on the OODA Loop? :803530406161:

There's no thread for it yet but maybe I'll write it up next week. In the meantime, you can wikipedia it.

Here's one for the guys ...

Be Careful - A 'heads up' for regular Home Depot holiday customers.

Over the last month I became a victim of a clever scam while out shopping. Don't

be naïve enough to think it couldn't happen to you or your friends.

Here's how the scam works:

Two very attractive 20-21 year-old girls come over to your car as you are packing

your stuff into the trunk. They both start wiping your windshield with a rag

and Windex, with their breasts almost falling out of their shirts.

It is very difficult not to look.

When you thank them and offer them a tip, they say 'No' and instead they ask

you for a ride to Lowes. You agree and they get in the backseat. On the way,

they start undressing. Then one of them climbs over into the front seat and

starts crawling all over you, while the other one steals your wallet.

I had my wallet stolen October 4th, 9th, 10th, twice on the 15th, 17th, 20th,

24th & 29th. Also November 1st, 4th, twice on the 8th, 16th, 23rd, 26th, 30th,

three times last Saturday and very likely again this upcoming weekend.

So tell your friends to be careful.

Also, Walmart has wallets on sale 2.99 each.

I have been wanting to invest in a pair of "red-suits"...like they have at our Dojo... ;)

The LOBSTER suits?

Another option for women is R.A.D. or Rape Aggression Defense. Wayne State Police hold classes monthly. The next session starts on January 19th. Many larger universities offer this four day course FREE. Check it out. Roseville has one. Some other local police departments may too. And once you have completed the course, you have a lifetime invitation to return on any or all days of the training. 4 days. 12 hours. Last day is simulation day. Why a simulation day? Because you need to know that this works and that you can do it. I took down two men in lobster suits, one 6'2" and 240 and the other 5'11" and 250. Training is focused on how to deter abduction and detainment, even in the case of "date" rape.

I highly recommend that ALL women, especially those in the highest risk group (16-21) enroll.

Interested? PM me and I will try to get you info. Also, lookee up on the webs. Should be a national map listing all training locations.
