WOLVES! Post pics and vids here!

Awwwwwwwwww mannnnnnnnnnn. This reminds me that I used to have some beautiful shots from a pack. I got them while backpaking on Isle Royale in the early 90s...until my ex decided to store my slides and negatives outside...in the winter...during our separation.

:cry:X:rant:

There is a pack of coyotes that frequents my neighbourhood, Rev. :) The Alpha male and I are acquainted with one another quite well, as he often comes to visit the lone human who joins into their evening chorus. :p My neighbours must really think I'm a nutter-- talking to spiders in the garden, and singing with coyotes!

I can't snap a photo of Alpha for the life of me, though! He hears the shutter and lens focusing, and he's gone like a flash! The closest I've gotten is the tip of his bottlebrush tail at the edge of the frame, and his footprints in the snow. :(

Well, when the time allows, I'd like to set up a blind somewhere in your "'hood" and try for a shot or two. I'm used to hanging in trees for an entire day to get that "one" elusive/right shot for wildlife.

I'd be more than happy to scout a good location for you to shoot, TomCat. It would give me an excuse to go hiking again. :p

The pack has moved northwest of the neighbourhood, at the moment. They have a circular pattern of range, that follows the outskirts of the area's suburbs. I spent two months tracking them, last fall and winter. I have an idea where their main den is (it's actually in a local wildlife preserve area), but I have to confirm it with a closer investigation. ;)

If I had a camera with a timer on remote, or a motion sensor trigger, I would have some killer shots by now.. :wallbash:

This works especially well with predators. They are always curious about the scent of other predators on their territory. Human urine is also an attractant for many wild animals, due to its high urea content.

...I was gonna' pun THAT!...but I felt a very serious vibe..so I did not...thanx for pickin' up the slack!

...& I'll say it here...I am SO happy Bren came back...'cause we got you BOTH NOW! MuAhAHAHAHAHA!

...& why are you running for ducks? :p

because sometimes, people get mad if they think I'm poking fun. Which in this case I'm not, I'm just a happy-go-lucky-smartass.

I'm enjoying being back too. I know Brenda is happy to be back too...crikey, she's pounding like, 100 posts out a day. At this rate, I'll catch up to her (IF she stops), in about 5 years.

*Runs and ducks again*

  • 1 month later...

Once while in the western UP I stopped at a stream to get a drink of water... I was bent down scooping water to my mouth when I heard a noise across the stream... when I looked up I locked gazes with a large gray. 20 seconds of eternity later he stalked off into the under brush. It was mighty cool.

and um, coyotee... Yeah, I've waited all day for a perfect shot on one of those too... with a .270 and a high power scope. Michigan's coyotee population is out of control is going to lead to a major die off soon.
