*sighs* I wish people could just get along. I know that may sound stupid to others, but I just dont understand why religious and non-religious people can't seem to coexist around the holidays. It's silly and a serious waste of time.

But that's just my two cents worth.

For the same reason religious people can't get along with other religious people... each group thinks the other is insane. God loves an atheist though, we're the only ones that take him seriously.

Which also means he hates a Subgenius, but at least "Bob" likes me :D

Jesus gave us an 11th commandment and that was to take care of one another although I fall in the same boat as Tomcat being a Christian and I heard on an internet site that 80% of the United States is we should all be taking care of one another. The worst thing that happened that actually irks the people of today and made religion based societies hate one another was the attack of 9/11 it changed govt, our freedoms(tapping without warrants), and other parts of society. The chinese donated two pandas to taiwan in order to try to keep them communist and in line I read too. A bribe vs democracy so they still live as slaves as far as i'm concerned but the last 4 leaders I believe in taiwan rejected the gift this year it was accepted. I don't believe that animals should be used as peace tokens either but who am I to say even tho I used to belong to PETA and was a vegan for 17yrs. Who knows. Just try to get along thats what I'm trying to do.

Actually according to http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ten_commandments there are twelve. So far I'm down to two :D (okay three but I was young!)

"I have lived a carnal life. My view of life is 'If you're going to miss Heaven, why miss it by two inches? Miss it!' I don't have to go through the thing of paying for it in the next life. I know I'm screwed in the next life." - Sam Kinison

far as i'm concerned, if x-tianity can attack/disparage/dismiss any and every other religion as not being "right" or "true" or what-have-you, they can let other people voice the same opinions...

if you can't take it, don't dish it out...

in other words, STFU...

How right you are. It seems like we get everything shoved in our faces (they don't realize it, they just think they're being "good religious folk" and then we speak out and suddenly we're oppressing them... when they don't give a fig about our feelings or what we think in the first place.

"My last vestige of 'hands off religion' respect disappeared in the smoke and choking dust of September 11th 2001, followed by the 'National Day of Prayer,' when prelates and pastors did their tremulous Martin Luther King impersonations and urged people of mutually incompatible faiths to hold hands, united in homage to the very force that caused the problem in the first place." - Richard Dawkins

I've always appreciated other religions, studied them, and found there to be considerable parallels (almost unilaterally). I've taken many different teachings from other religions, balled them up into "my philosophical approach to life." I wish others were as like minded (open minded). Otherwise, this world would be a much less cynical, turbulent, and divided place. Color me Foolish, but I have to believe that there is a reason for all of this, even if I cannot prove it, I just wish those that differ, wouldn't take to hating me for it.

You know that deep down, you do.

But I'm happy.

So those that would call me foolish from behind their bitter verses, can suck it. Because what I have, and hold dearest to my heart, makes me happy and complete.

That's what makes you better than the majority of your kind. You pull from different sources.

Still "By all means let's be open-minded, but not so open-minded that our brains drop out." - Richard Dawkins

I'll tell you what I told my friend/fellow club member Daisy. I like you, just not your beliefs.

"I contend that we are both atheists. I just believe in one fewer god than you do. When you understand why you dismiss all the other possible gods, you will understand why I dismiss yours." - Stephen Roberts

(sorry I'm on a quotes binge lately)

Nothing wrong with quoting binges. I'm going to make up a silly string of them right now that sum it all up, in my cerebellum...

"I believe that there are no right or wrong answers to all the questions asked. Just better questions."

"Bringing different flavors to the table, just means a richer experience can be had. Like Reese, who said "fuck it all to hell, you got your peanut butter on my chocolate" and then...he killed the other guy for it! (Little known fact of the origin of this most unusual concoction at the time, but I think it ended well for Mr Reese).

So that's why they're Reese's Peanut Butter Cups and Pieces. That, my friends is an example of how bringing it all together, no matter how crazy it seems at the time, just makes the world a better place.

I mean if we take out of the rotation every Goth/Industrial song that makes mention of God/satan/angels/demons/spirits/ghouls/zombies (Rob Zombie notwithstanding) we'd lose some pretty good stuff. So I liken it to a source of inspiration and flavor that I can relate to.
