Best presents of 2008

First off, I should mention that I've had two glasses of wine and the world is very rosy to me now. But, per the usual, my family has started opening presents on Christmas Eve. Best one yet, (besides the marzipan--fuck YES MARZIPAN!!!!) was my brother's gift from my mother: the STAR WARS COOKBOOK. Yes, people. Wookie Cookies and Bubba Fett-icini. No lie.

The best present I've had so far, is Head Wreck's staying awake to talk to me..

Aside from that, NUTTIN'.

Well, you just be here at 3:00, and I'll treat you to some ole fashioned holiday cooking, a la Che Jeff. Trust me, I can cook like no other shortfatirishmobsterninjascientist ever could. For real.

Oooh! This year I lucked out. First, my mother bought me a root canal. Yeah, I know it sounds boring, and believe me, the drilling was, but it is so much better to be able to both a) eat and b) not look like a chipmunk with an abscess than to forgo the torture and hold on to my half of zee dough ($400 out of pocket for each me and mum--don't wait until your tooth DIES to do something about it--that is the lesson learned). But that was October.

In December, my mother notices that my car slides sideways down the driveway after a snow or a sleet or a sniffle of cold weather and asks me, "When is the last time you got tires for that thing?" Oh, THANK YOU MOTHER for the early birthday present. See how she spoils me?

But, no, that is not all. My mom stockpiles presents all year, so I received many other goodies like a mortar and pestle! Yay! No, I'm quite serious. It is a very cool gift. Now I can make my masalas proper. Oh, and that lovely ivory shawl I liked to wear because though it isn't exactly fashionable, it IS super-soft and rather like a grown-up's woobie--she bought me one in RED!

My favorite present from my brother: a shovel! It's a telescoping shovel for the trunk of my car. He knows I have this weird fear that I will be stranded in the snow and end up eating my own foot for lack of food. What a darling. He also bought me a memory card for my camera so that it can take more than 10 pictures before I have to hurry up and download it all before I can take my next shot. Not that any pictures I take ever come out anyway. But now I have more chances to get my thumb in the picture!

Destiny gave me a skirt that she had recycled from some 80's paisley disco shirt onto which she sewed my name in feltish letters. I love it. I wear it with everything. (Put my name on something and I'm sure to adore it--I'm that vain.) But best of all, she gave me a chapbook of her last feature at Trixie's. I love her poetry. And, seriously though, personalized copies of people's own creative endeavors are my favorite gifts of all.

Favorite gifts given: 1) to my mom, 2 gifts--the first is the ultimate practical gift, elixir of the gods dispenser, er, I mean coffeemaker. Yesh. The Hamilton Beach 12 cup Brewstation with the "press your cup here, no carafe to break, no spillage and yes you can refill while it is brewing" dispenser bar. And the second was the natural amber and turquoise double-strand necklace I bought for her in Colorado. 2) to my brother--the deerskin gloves

Wow, you made out this year! Those all sound like great presents! Root canals are not fun, but yes, at least you can eat without the pain. The skirt sounds awesome and I am jealous. :)

I gave my mum a guitar Christmas ornament with the British flag on it (She's from England), a Red Wings Santa Hat (She loves the Wings), and a bookmark that says "Princess" on it (Her name is Fiona, she was dubbed the nickname 'Princess Fiona' by many). I also got my dad an Elvis Presley Christmas ornament that sings. I got my brother a $20 gift card to Best Buy, he'll like that. That's all I could afford to buy for. The other gifts were expensive, I got them @ Bronner's in Frankenmuth back in October or November. I feel bad that I could not get anyone else anything. :(

I got DDR UNIVERSE 3!

And a badass 570 piece LEGO CASTLE with a huge orc, and it has this little basket for gold that's on a rope that comes down and drops it in a chute where there's little mine cars. And there's a bucket on a rope for lifting the gold, and a RAMP so the gold has a slide, and several rooms and it took me two hours to do.

I bought that for my ex-bf about 10 years ago, and he loved it! He was a BIG "Star Wars" fan.

My mother came through her surgery intact and is recovering freakily fast. Next to that, presents are nothing. :)

Glad to hear that. I didn't really get any objects for Christmas got like $600.00 check from mom and $100.00 from dad(his dad is ill and in the hospital for congestive heart so he wasnt in the best of moods kinda snapped at me when I told him I was gonna have some wine for Christmas). My friend Paul gave me a killer bottle of imported wine. Bout it.
