thewhiterecluse
My mom gave me her old but relatively new sewing machine because she got a new one (like she seriously needed it) but it's cool I took it off of her hands, does anybody know how to use one? aequorea
i know how to work a generic sewing machine, but there are lots of differences between them, especially with all the tricks that the newer ones can do. my advice to you is to get some scrap fabric and the manual, and figure out how to sew a straight line with even thread tension, and take it from there :-D
Brenda Starrr
I'd like to learn how to use one myself.
aequorea
actually... maybe we should start a DGN chapter of stitch n bitch? that would be so much fun! we could meet one sunday a month and do crafty things. i would have room for about 6 people with supplies in my basement if i got a couple tables and some more lamps. it's not very cute, but it would work! i'm not a sewing expert, but i am proficient after making costumes for several shows and working on several different machines. GothicRavenGoddess (3)
I just recently got a new sewing machine. I think that A is right. we need to coordinate something so that we lovers of the threaded machine can have a place to come together and make stuff..lol that would be awesome. a day where we can bring in our current sewing projects, and help each other with any issues we are having with it. or whatever... For now, Post your tricks of the trade, so to speak... what works what doesn't.. what fabrics you love/hate to sew on (i love thick satin, hate thin satin--doesn't matter if I fiddle with the tension, it always bunches for some reason.... seems like my tension knob forgets how to work when I am sewing really thin satin erg!!!) anyways... and I know that there are a lot of us who sew because we love it and not just because its cheaper to mend something than to buy a new something. lol I love to sew, and though I know a lot, there is still a whole lot more i don't know (like how to make a real corset, for example, or how to sew a button hole properly--that you wouldn't think was hard, just follow the instructions... nope... I can't seem to get it right... even when my machine comes with a special foot for it -not the one I have now... the one I had before this one) but anyways.... StormKnight (1)
It has been a long, long time since I ran a sewing machine. Not saying I could do a wedding gown or a tuxedo. But I could figure out how to work one (though that might not be the home economics course junior high required us to take but my weird mechanical aptitude.) Eevee
I've always wanted to learn because my mom used to make me clothes when I was a baby and I want to be able to do the same for my children. And I've always wanted to learn to knit.
