To clarify the plans, I shall post this largely and brightly colored official announcement...

Sunday February 1!

1 to 5pm!

My house, Royal Oak, Main & 13

I would appreciate it if people could bring drinks or snacky things. I might also need to borrow a table or two... but we'll see how many people plan to come!

I'll send more detailed directions closer to the date :-)

I work betta' on the floor...I'm such a caveperson...

I have girl scouts and boy scouts ... sewing these badges by hand is HELL.

I wish I knew how to use a sewing machine .... or had access to one. I don't know what I'll be doing that day, but Sunday's are generally really busy around here. :(

my thoughts at the moment...

there will be room for everyone! we may be scattered around the house if there are lots of us

marc, absolutely bring the craftettes! how fun! and having pics of the event would be excellent. and if you n eevee want to have a food fight you can play in the backyard (LMAO picturing this)

i think it would be a good idea to define some goals clearly so that everyone will have the chance to learn/do what they want...

i think it would really help if we had a couple of people who were willing to be teachers for the day, or at least for the first half of the day!

maybe we could have a sewing machine basics demo, then a knitting demo for interested parties? after that, people could work on projects with beginners assisted by those with mad crafty skills!

if you have a better plan, i am all ears! to minimize confusion please PM it to me and i can post changes in the plan.

i am so excited about this! :happydance

Back on topic.. When's the next event? I SO wanna learn to sew.

Let's see how round one goes...

But I was thinking once a month, so maybe we could set up another date around the end of February or beginning of March?

Phee - almost peed my pants laughing :-)

Rev - there will definitely be plenty of floor! sewing machines would be tricky on the floor, though

Marc - it would be great to meet the girls, I hope they can come!

Chern - ROFL! uhoh... (goes to find change of pants)

yes sewing on the floor is a bitch

i can CROCHET (not crotch thank you) as well and i would be glad to be a sewing/crocheting teacher

suggestion....

bring fabric appropriate for one consolidated group project or the project you would like to first learn

if you want to do something specific make a suggestion for it here so the more experienced can let you know how feasible it is for a first time project (for example, no i would not suggest that you make a PVC and lace mix steel bone corset with bra cups and adjustable straps your first time... my first project was a cape and it looked like POOP)

and make sure you have the notions you will need (zippers, buttons, trim, elastic, etc)

i'm lucky enough to live a half mile from a joanns so i can run out in the middle of a project but it really is a better idea to lay it all out while you have time to make a trip to the store

No...really..if there's NO room on any tables...I'll set up me dino-sew-er on the floor...no bother to a caveman...

I haven't got a whole lot to teach...but I can at least operate a machine...

...thread it & what not...

BUMP!

it's about 2 weeks away, but i'd like to start getting an idea of who will be coming and how things will work. if you are planning to attend, please let me know! also please list what you'd be willing to teach and/or what you'd like to learn.

i'm so excited about having a houseful of craftiness!

Well, I'll definitely be there... I might be able to help people make a simple skirt if they want if they bring everything they need. We'll have space for multiple teachings to be going on?

there's a fairly big area in the basement, i think we can fit about 10 people in there. there's also the kitchen and the living room, which might be good for about 4 people each. i had originally thought that we might have mini-lessons one at a time in the basement... but perhaps we could do sewing machines in the basement and other more portable things (like knitting) upstairs?

let's see who & how many are interested in each.

helena, what materials would be required for the skirt?

In simplest form, about 2 yards of fabric and some elastic - I prefer to use about 1/4 - 3/8 inch size, but a 1 inch is also fine - just a different way to do it. Either will work, personal preference. Matching thread (of course). Those are the most basic ingredients. Lace or other trimmings if you want them for the bottom - 2 yards will do if you don't want to ruffle it. If you'd rather have a ruffle on bottom, then get 3 yards of fabric. Or do the ruffle and put lace on it too. 2 yards of cheap satin lining for the lining if you wanna be classy. XD (You can get away without lining honestly but it's better to have it.)

Note: you need a petticoat with these skirts, but we aren't making those. Just a word of warning. haha.

SO like, umm.. is there a way you can teach me this as a private lesson? I really wanna be there, but won't be in town.. *sniffles*

*slips in a bribe*
