The Biggest Loser DGN Style

I'm at least noticing differences in my arms and upper torso. Once againthe halfway point of my torso to my waist depresses me

I'm starting to notice stuff in myself too, specifically my arms, back and shoulders. I take measurements of my body every month to see how many inches I've lost. I've dropped another size in jeans. I know I am getting smaller but it's hard for me to see it because I'm used to see the bigger me.

Sweet! You mention needing to do protein: I use GNC(general nutrition center)Pro Performance 50 Gram Slam ready to drink protein drink in a can. It is :drool

I use a GNC Protein Powder Mix (can't remember the name) but it's chocolate, and I only use one scoop because it has 20g of protein in one scoop. It's OK, better if you add a banana and some peanut butter.

I use the one I use, because I tried the powder ones, and everytime I made one, I would end up with some of it not being fully mixed. I had protein sludge at the bottom of my glass, and that pissed me off. I found the one I'm using now and haven't looked back.

Oh and the one I use, is 50 grams of protein per can.

That's what a magic bullet blender is good for. :)

I'm in a bit of a stall. Still steadily doing my stuff, but I've hit a little wall...but it will pass. I'm more than halfway to my re-evaluation goal (my original goal, but depending on how I feel at that point I may push a little further).

My legs are slightly sore today from my workout last night. Yay! I've been working out almost daily for a while but only light stuff and I hadn't had any soreness yet...which makes me feel like I'm not doing anything.

BTW anyone who has the wii - I've heard the dancing games are pretty good and are also good exercise. Does anyone have any? What do you recommend? Do they need their own dance pad or anything? I just have the wii fit plus. I just found out they even have DDR for Wii!!

i don't know how closely you track calories, or even if you do, but sometimes when people hit a plateau in wieght loss, they need to do something that's really counter-intuitive - for a couple weeks or so, you might want to try increasing your calorie intake by approx. 250 cal/day. if the plateau lasts for a while, you may want to try this, it can help to stimulate your metabolism!

I'm actually on a controlled diet with controlled calories, but I have heard people say that to jumpstart a plateau, it's often good to err on the high-fat high-calorie side of the requirements, substituting a steak instead of fish. If my slowdown actually does come to a real stop, I may try this. Or I guess I could, you know, not drink on the weekend (crazy talk!). I'm giving it another week to see if I need to actually go this route...the last ~5 days or week or so I've just been circling around the same numbers on the scale (back and forth and up and down), and I should be losing at least a couple every week.

a week is really nothing for a plateau, i wouldn't sweat it. drinking, however, is most definitely a metabolism killer - your body processes alcohol first, before fat, protein, or carbs. it's also a systemic depressant (not necessarily psychological) which means it slows metabolism.

How is alcohol metabolized?

I was on a plateau for a bit and I think it was because I wasn't eating enough. I was only eating 900 calories a day and working out 5 times per week. I'm not sure how many calories I burn when I am in Krav Maga class but when I do the elliptical and lift weights on the other days I am burning 600 calories. So basically my body was starving from what my nutritionist told me so she had me increase my calories to 1200 and I haven't had much of a problem since. Although, when I take my fight conditioning class on wednesdays I eat around 1400-1500 calories because that class is 90 minutes long and intense.

My diet is 800-1000 cal and under 100 carbs, but we can't do more than 45 min exercise, and on days when we do we have to increase calories, so we don't go into starvation mode. If you do, you go out of ketosis and can't lose anything. :(

shit - are you being medically supervised on this diet? like, actually seeing a doctor, getting bloodwork done, etc? because if not, you're running a huge health risk. a nutritionist isn't enough. i'm not trying to discourage at all, just concerned.

Quit weighing yourself so often ;)

I weigh in once a month, if that... I know I'm loosing because I see and feel it. Don't obsess over it.

A healthy diet is very important.. Make sure you don't set unrealistic calorie intakes for yourself, because you will just gain it all back when you try to go back to eating "normally". Weight loss is a complete lifestyle change.. It is something that is a long term commitment.

& While drinking is not good for a diet, you can watch WHAT you drink.. and maybe cut out a day here and there..

Your liver will love you for it ;)

Stay away from caffeine and drink LOTS of water.. I find those two things do allot for you :)

Good job Y'all

Well, I had gastric bypass back in May so I was only taking in 700-900 calories the first 6 months because my new stomach being so small, only held an ounce of food at a time. After six months, it grows a bit to accomodate the body's needs. I last saw my doc in Sept., my labs are fine, mind you I have to take vitamins the rest of my life. Don't worry, I'm fine as long as I get adequate protein, keep taking my vitamins and drinking my water. I can contact my nutritionist any time, she usually gets back to me very quickly and she's the one that I go to with dietary stuff and she works closely with my doc.

The only reason I weigh so often is the wii fit. XD

What I'm doing now is kinda more like a gastric bypass in that it's a tool to get you down to the right weight, not a way to learn good eating habits - those still have to be learned afterward, since it's not possible to spend the rest of my life eating powdered food. ;) The lifestyle change comes after. Small parts come now - eating smaller more frequent meals, eating 1 really healthy meal a day (which will be similar to the ones I'll continue eating afterward).

I'm not supposed to drink at ALL on it, but I haven't kept to that...but I do drink only rum/vodka mixed with diet coke, so at least I'm getting the minimum # of calories, no calories from sodas, juices, sour mix, etc.

I've been minimizing my caffeine, keeping my soda and coffee drinking to a minimum (though not null), and I drink between 70-100 oz of water a day, so I'm good on those fronts. :)

All gastric bypass is, is a tool. That is what was stressed by my surgeon. He said that while initially the surgery is the reason why I lost weight, the rest is up to me. The weight can be regained so I need to change my eating habits and increase my exercise. I made a lot of changes before surgery but still decided to have it well....because I was fucking huge... As for powdered food, I could go without drinking a protein shake everyday if I wanted to, but I like them too much to give them up.

The Tabata sounds interesting.

I recently got an exercise video for the first time in my life - Jillian's 30 Day Shred. I guess she's from that show this thread is actually named after, so probably you've heard of it (I've never seen the show so I'd never heard of her). It's like circuit training, 20 min of different exercises for 30-60sec each with 0 rest. It's intense but kinda fun because it switches so much. It's easy to get through the 20 min even though it hurts like hell. You are supposed to do each of the 3 levels for 10 days in a row each for a total of 30 days. I've only done it 3 days so far, Thurs, Sun, and Mon (and tonight will be my 4th). I didn't have it in me Fri or Sat T___T - too sore from Thurs! But I danced at City so I guess it's okay. ;)

Anyway, it's not a bad little thing and it's really cheap - the DVD's only like $8-9 or you an download it but we wouldn't do something like that.... 20 minutes is easy to give up so I recommend it - my biggest problem with exercise is finding the time. :)

As for me, I've broken my disgusting little stall and I'm on my way back down, slowly but surely.
