Sleeping Beauty Mine Turquoise (this turquoise is natural, with no artificial oxidation process to make it bluer-- I also love the flecks of pyrite in it)

Burmese Mogok Mine Pigeon's Blood Ruby

..I like gold, silver, platinum, and titanium as settings-- depending on the stone. Green stones tend to look nicer with gold prong settings, IMOP.

Yes, I know my gemstones. I'm one of those people who takes a jeweler's loup to the flea market, and looks for the real stuff tossed in amongst the phoney. ;)

TURQUOISE.

post-208-1232688811_thumb.jpg

If you've ever seen me outside of CC (where I usually wear my "evening stones"... moonstone, onyx & mother of pearl), then you know. As Eternal can confirm, my hoard of mostly authentic Southwest- made turquoise jewelry is so ridiculously large I had to get extra homeowner's insurance to cover it.

Other favorites: Labradorite, amethyst, iolite (but not the "navy" stuff that's all over eBay lately), lapis lazuli, & amber... NATURAL amber, not the pressed chip crap. All set in silver 'cos I believe gold has too much bad history/karma attached to it.

I loves Ms Jynxxxed even more now... I thought I was the only jewelry geek who carried a loupe at all times!

I know its only a semi precious...and it may make my redneck show a bit but...turquoise

which makes sense considering I am sag cusp or whatever.

I don't like my birthstone...

Turquoise has been a sacred stone for hundreds of years all over the world. Turquoise is a stone of peace, serenity and tranquility. A stone of the heart chakra, it connects the three upper and three lower chakras. Turquoise is a traditional gift stone for friendship and is always more powerful when gifted than when purchased.

http://www.ehow.com/how_2223777_use-turquoise-energy.html

Turquoise, the Sagittarian birthstone, is found in many parts of the world, including the United States, Iran, Africa, Tibet, and China.

In a number of cultures it's traditionally considered to be a bridge between earth and heaven. This makes it an ideal stone for Sag (imagine the Archer's arrow soaring into the air), since this sign tends to be more interested in matters of the mind and spirit than those which are material and practical. Sagittarians often like to be as interested in and involved in more things than other signs would find humanly possible. An unkind description of their mental processes would be "scattered."

Touch the Ground

At a certain point even the most stalwart Sag may become bewildered by the dazzling breath of his/her mental activities and might even feel lost, or at least notice that little of this activity is yielding material results. This is where turquoise becomes invaluable. Turquoise helps to ground the wandering Sagittarians while keeping their connection to the infinite open. In fact, some Native cultures held the belief that by wearing it the human mind becomes one with the universe.

Turquoise is also a stone of mental clarity and clear communication. It helps us to be clear on what we want, and to then be able to communicate our desires to others. This again helps Sagittarians when they have so many ideas and possibilities that they have difficulty in sorting out priorities.

While Sagittarians don't usually get as wired as their opposite sign, Gemini, their excitement over ideas can cause them to forget to touch earth, as noted above. Turquoise's energy, being both calming and stabilizing, is very helpful for this sign.

my setting of chioce is white gold or silver. Gold makes me look like i have a yellow tint to my skin. i will make an exception, when it comes to gifts, ONLY when it comes to rings lol I prefer the stones to be tastefully dainty, or large and gigantic lol and I love when the tones are oval shaped, or an unconventional shape...
