***Note- I do not condone racism nor do I find this funny. I just thought I would share it with the board having seen a tin sign like this before in an antique shop. Just used as an example to go along with this topic. If you are offended, I apologize, but this is the Politically INcorrect thread, right?

Lol yes it is but its still funny. The stereotypes still exhist...I saw at the busstop the other day a guy in a statue of liberty costume (I am not lying) and a guy standing next to him with a HUGE afro and thought...only in an obama year...I wanted to stop and ask where the party was...

Then I go to the grocery store and there is this old black guy and guess what the only thing in his cart was? A watermelon. They have them round like basketballs now. Guess it is preferred to the football shape...? And its smaller.

If you like this kind of thing, do a search on "black americana" on eBay... you will be rewarded with pages and pages of appalling items along these lines.

Political Correctness is uber-retarded....its for brainless idiots...

Well I guess I'm a brainless idiot then, since I strongly believe that everyone benefits where respect is the norm, and I have major difficulty finding the humor in degrading and dehumanizing people by perpetuating negative stereotypes.

this one disturbs me

Isn't any worse than the whole "sexy schoolgirl" thing, which utterly creeps me out

I used to love that fragrance, though... do they still make it?

There should not have to be a damn police force going around to enforce it though. No, not an actual force but self appointed assholes.

Try going to Madison sometime...its the perfect example of them shooting PAST the mark on political correctness. I had my grades lowered, $50 tickets imposed, and my ass banned from many places there for being "politically incorrect".

Despite popular belief you can make fun of people like me even though I am a white male. Assumptions can be made and I can be offended. But, I either talk kindly to the other person and work something out or turn my back and ignore them. I have had some terrible shit said to me and have yet to retaliate with angry verbal or physical actions. I do not ask that anyone think over everything that they might say or do just in case someone might not like it. My friends, yeah not all of them are white, also hate political correctness.

Yeah, there are a few things that are obviously not right...but now it has gone beyond that. Case in point is some of the advertisements in here. It was done in a different time under a completely different set of variables. If done today those things would be considered bad. I am just getting sick of people saying that we are "advancing" ourselves when we are really reaching back into our past trying to dig up stupid shit. If we want to move foreward...lets move foreward and do something about things that we can actually fix.

Not trying to be and ass or anything...its just that the brilliant idea of political correctness could make a racist, sexist, etc. out of just about anyone that it wants. So, when I really do not like racism or sexism, why the hell should I be motivated to actually give a shit when people are just waiting to point the finger at me? I want to care...but what will it cost me? Another $50 ticket maybe?

I look at it like Carlos Mencia. I'm not racist, I pick on EVERYONE. But I do it in good fun when I do. I'm not very malicious.

Me too...but sadly that doesn't fly...not if you are white anyways...or if you get paid to do it...people today are just hunting for shit to nail you with

Well, it does bring awareness to a very unpleasant fact. And to quote George Carlin:

"There's a bigot and a racist in every living room and on every street corner in America."

What is said has a thought behind it, even though it may be in the furthest reaches of our subconscious, or taught by upbringing. Everyone has the potential to be a racist pig, and I mean EVERYONE. One of the things political correctness has done is bring that unpleasant fact to the forefront of everyone's mind.

I like this thread in the fact that it does make us realize that everyone has prejudice, and some of these ads bring up the question "did I act like this was normal when it was out?" The very fact that these ads make most people uncomfortable and offend most of our current sensibilities is proof that we actually HAVE come a long way. But there is still more to be done.

So, if I am prejudice against my own species (we are all Homo sapiens sapiens, and uncomfortable as that may sound, I have to realize that as possibility from being brought up by War-Baby generation (generation before the boomers,) who it was normal actions,) am I going to just leave it alone, or am I going to do something to bring about change in myself.

Overcome, Adapt, Improve, and Succeed.

Sure...but did you read my other comments? I hate useless stereotypes too...they are stupid. That being said I have a horrible, nasty taste in my mouth from all these "politically correct" people. It has turned into a damn witch hunt. It has turned into actual FINES for people that "offened" others. I have been in situation where I fucking swear that Senator McCarthy is back with his mob using their superpowers to "see what you really are". I never knew that the step towards peace was putting words and thoughts into people's mouths or digging through their every word to find out what they "really mean". Sorry man but I spent a few years in a city where they are considered to be one of the most "politically correct" societies in America...and my first mistake what being a white male with a habit of smoking. Like I said up there I got three $50 tickets for "incorrect or offensive actions" not to mention being shouted and yelled out of places that I can now never go back to. I have met some assholes before...but even they gave a little thought to something I said or did before immediately judging me on it. What kind of movement for good shoots and then asks questions later?

It's like those peaceful riots where everything gets burned or broken and the hospital is full of bystanders and "peaceful" participants....great idea....but thats as far as it ever went. I cannot condone the actions that have been taken by the vast majority of the "politically correct" people that I have met or seen. If I want to help something or make it better thats my damn business and I will do it....but not like this....this is horrible. I am afraid to go to Madison, Milwaukee, Chicago, and many other places because of this. The basic action of walking down the street frightens me...even when I am with a group of people. But we have to get rid of those white males somehow right? Especially those that smoke...

Sounds like the ordinances in that city were place by bigots against others not in the mindset. Bigotry can take a lot of forms. The idea of political correctness is a concept should be TAUGHT, either by enlightened parents or part of school. It should not be codified into laws unless in extremis. To do so is to swing bigotry in the other extreme where no one is allowed to say or do anything.

There are exceptions. The Civil Rights Act addressed an issue of inequality and abuse that had existed for a good 140 or so years, as an example of needing to go to codified laws.

And trust me I have seen the witch hunts. I had a friend nearly kicked out of college for saying "fuck" due to frustration over a math problem near a woman who was offended because she was ultra-religious (and was charged as sexual harassment.) Started a rash of cases in student disciplinary committees to the point I was afraid to say hi to a woman. And there is the ever (not) so popular non-smoking law in DC that is killing a lot of weekend business because you couldn't smoke in clubs, the big reason people come into the District on a Saturday night (CA is the same way.)

Extremists exist in any movement. Unfortunately, they have the will and energy to screw up everyone else, and muck up the works.

I suggest we take this discussion, if anyone cares to continue, to the Politics forum, and allow the thread to continue. I am personally interested in seeing these adds, and remember what was considered acceptable at one time.
