Labyrinth Memories

Lab used to have its crowd from '98 up to the Bobbie-era. After Higgins had it closed and then re-opened the place just wasn't the same;just wasn't able to sustain the following it had. But then there were totally new people running it.

Yeah, I was one of them. I was Ron & Johnny head of security for 4 years.

Just a couple of things:

Since Rob forgot to mention it! June 27th is the official pre- grand opening opening party... with Ty:

Repairs are underway to help bring about the reincarrnation of The Lab as The Underground.

Much of the "black Mold" that was in the ceiling, was in the ceiling tiles. Fortunately, many of those said tiles have been replaced, due to a very large supply of tiles, thanks to Ron & Johnny. Rob has done many major repairs of the sound system and it sounds great.

As for memories down there, I have many. I helped Chris & Timm clean the place up & get it open. I worked with Blackie for a little while down there, & I was the head of security down there for Ron & Johnny for 4 years.

Out of all of that time, the "wierdest" thing I had ever seen down there, let alone being a bouncer in that building for the better part of 15 years, was during the 2005 holiday season. I don't remember what troupe it was performing, but I was on stage working security, when all of the sudden the Lab was invaded by 500 Santa Clauses. THE STRANGEST NIGHT OF MY BOUNCING CAREER!!!

My best memory, besides SPAG, was during my 80's Nite W/ Ty Strikes Back. Had about 125 people show up and raised a good amount of change for charity. It was also the most KICK ASS birthday party I have ever had!!!

I did my first fetish show there.. I was pierced on stage, & later that night whipped till I bled.

I posted a pic from that show in the 'hot goth chicks' thread ;)

I used to hang there most Wednesdays for dollar drink night.. Good times.

I also Played Vampire The Masquerade there on Sunday nights for a while.

Aaahhhh.. Fun debauch times.

Funny story... some of you know I used to dj down at the Lab as Grave Robert. I djed one of the noir fetish shows one night which also had a lot of swingers down there at the club. Our band had just played recently with Cruxshadows. Anyways, I am also a full time music teacher in the elementary schools. One day as my students were leaving to get on the bus, a parent walks up to me in the school lobby anouncing quite loudly, "Hey! great job spinning at the swinger party at the lab, how's the band!?" There were all these parents standing around. Luckily no one heard him.

The Lab was the first place I ever really met anyone here in Detroit. Art and Mac introduced me to a lot of people. People were always very friendly and respectful to me when I spun. I tried to play a lot of requests all the time. We always had a good crowd. Blackie I think wanted to go in more of a rock a billy direction with our night though which at the time wasn't filling the dance floors. people have always been very particular about what they liked and didn't like. Sarah and I made a good team. I hope that the people that came down for our Oblivion shows enjoyed the night. I spent a lot of money on the fog machine at that time:)

I hope the new Underground will be like that gothic Cheers, the Lab I remember.

I just saw this and feel so happy. I was just thinking of the bottle cap wall the other day, had my first Legal drink down there. I'm beyond happy to be back there, even if it was pushed to the upper half (54) tomorrow. I miss the punk nights, I miss getting all the liquor orders ready with Kelley while dodging peanut M&M's from eachother. I have more memories there than at City. I don't however miss being the cleaning person all by myself with the various noises and critters. My first kiss from my current Bf was there, in the coat check while I was working. It's had so many phases and I'm so glad I was a part of them.

I'[ll be there for Ty's birthday, might even still be working the door, nobody called me yet.

The afterhours Lab Rats Jager Bash... :) And Blackie trying to teach me how to properly swing dance while Stray Cats played in the dj booth.

And former owner Chris bringing us all down there after the Lager House, unlocking the place, and, basically, throwing an impromptu private party down there!

The only memory I have of the lab I just turned 21 and my Uncle John took me there after we went to the Metallica and Godsmack concert. When we got there I almost fell down the stairs and I got to see the cruxshadows play thier last song it was awesome dont remember much other than I fell up the stairs on the way out.

I went to Lab once back in 1999. I received the best compliment of my life by one of the bouncers at the door and won't forget it to this day.

interesting..one of the worst COMMENTS I ever recieved came from a bouncer at city club when I was still in my 30, weighed like 90 lbs...and had double d boobs...he said

'to bad your not a hot young chick' and I was dressed to thrill as well...

oh well the goth 'scene' seems to pretty much cater to the larger girl sect...
