semi functional. :(

the battery doesn't seem to be taking charge, or the alternator isn't playing ball. one of those two.

we also need to get that very worrying tyre sorted.

least we know the starter is OK

The battery light should come on if it's not charging. Do you need a jump start again?

thanks all.

Marc: i think that a jumper start again would be most handy and this time as if its like our cars, that light will show unless the engine is turning even if the alternator is duff. positive side is that the alternator if it is that is easy to reach (damn frogs bury theirs)

As much grief as there is about GM, Delco has done pretty well for its electrical parts. I can safely say when it does go, it does go, and it is easy to replace on the car.

Not to offend, but I had a friend that had a few grey market Land Rovers (a D90 and a D110,) and I have seen the horrors of Lucas Electronics and their three settings: off, flicker, and dim.

I have seen the complexity of a few imported cars (the exhaust on a Jag XJS, the vacuum system of the twin-turbo RX-7 (my personal cross,) and the less said of Italian sports cars, the better,) and a replacing a chevy alternator is nowhere near as labor intensive. I almost fear what the French do to theirs, if it wasn't for the fact I could bench press the 100kg the front end of their cars must weigh. lol

Remind me, if I can find time when I am not hunched over a lab bench or sleeping, to tell you my philosophy of "Sports Cars and the Countries that Produce Them."

The battery may have just given up the ghost. It happens when cars sit without having been run for a long time.

yeah lucas blows. the land rover support have go around the lucas. sometimes as far as a ditch off the engine and its wiring (seeing a few modern jag v8's in an old chassis.)

We are sincerely hope its the battery, that was jip before it was laid up. if not, breakers yards.

one thing i've done in the past (not sure if it will work with newer cars) is that once the car is running, disconnect the battery. if the care keeps running, the alternator's working - if it dies abruptly, it's not...
