Villainaire by The Dead Science is a clamoring, emotional explosion of sound. This album isn’t designed to make the listener comfortable– it’s the sonic equivalent of probing a cavity with your tongue; it jangles your nerves, but it’s oddly compelling. Singer Sam Mickens’ eerie, breathy warble combined with explosions of strings, guitars, and drums makes for a chaotic, deeply enjoyable ride. Tracks like “Make Mine Marvel” combine all these elements for a confounding, memorable joyride into aural madness.

I think fans of The Dresden Dolls and Amanda Palmer would also find The Dead Science to their liking. Both have a sense of kinetic energy, bounding along chaotically like a child prodigy with ADHD. The sound is intelligent, odd, beautiful and twisted.
