How many here and others they know believe in assuming and the philosophy of assuming

and how many actually "presume instead since they know they could be wrong.

assuming is the mother of all f^%kups, its like saying your right with no actual proof to back up your

ass-umption

presuming you atleast know you could be wrong.

I don't think that anyone really belives in assumtions...but I do belive that everyone does it...

I assume things...its part of the way that out brains work...and its not always a bad thing...

People cannot be fully blamed for assuming things...what I mean is that too many point fingers at others for being ignorant while they themsleves are also to blame...if someone is in the dark it is up to others to educate them, in a nice manner, because some people are brought up in the wrong circumstances...

I know alot of people that make assumtions, however I cannot blame them because of the situations that surrounded their life while they grew up...they are cautious around people that are not white...but I grew up in the same neighborhood as them and although I know damn well that not all people of color are like that, the people in that neighborhood are...its not racism in that case...its just the fact that I moved to a different location and discovered that its PEOPLE that are like that and not their race. My friends are learning...but as long as they stay in that neighborhood where, yes there are Bloods and Latin Kings, its going to be a bigger struggle...and there the fault also lies in those that my friends discriminate against...

It's very hard to call a foul on an assumption because what do we know about the person? Maybe they have a damn good reason to be thinking the way they are...and maybe they don't. I often get mad at people that assume that the person making assumtions is a racist. I also get mad when people assume that another persons skin color means that they will do certain things. Then I get mad at myself because I have just made a bunch of assumtions myself.

If you want a definite answere to the question of the validity of assumptions you need to narrow it down...because this is a situation where, well, assumtions have been made about those that assume effectively killing off any logic in the argument.

No this is not a quiz, its just a question on how many people here and others not on here that might go by this philosphy.

all anyone needs to do on this thread is answere a yes or a no.

You must have assumed that people would take this thread seriously. EVERYONE has made assumptions in their lives. EVERYONE. I have made assmptions, despite trying NOT to do so.

Are you going to beat me now?

If anyone answeres by saying NO they are lying...and that is not an assumtion...that is fact...

Pretty much.

We're all human. We all make assumptions sometimes. The smart ones are the ones who investigate to find out the truth, rather than just being ignorant and sticking with their assumptions.

+1

You should really be asking what people do AFTER they assume...that is the key part...its actually a good tool to use...even though the initial results may be partial and slighly stupid, its a starting point and you need to start somewhere...it can help you form questions that seek out answeres...

We all assume something in some shape or another, just given our daily lives.

We assume that when we go to sleep, we will wake up. There are some of us with significant medical problems that make it a very real issue that we may not wake up. At all.

We assume the lump of metal, rubber plastic and gas will start up when we want it to and take us places. Again, we don't know for sure.

We assume that our bodies will work when our brains command it. Sometimes doesn't happen, as with seizures, psychologic paralysis.

We assume our bodies won't betray us. Disease, accidents, even the ravages of time prove they can be turned against us.

We assume our minds won't betray us. Neurodegenerative diseases and psychological conditions exist as proof otherwise.

There are some basic assumptions that we have to have in place to function in the world. Otherwise, we risk being paralyzed by what can't know. When our basic assumptions prove wrong, we learn better to interface with the world.

You assume that we all got enough sleep to read that properly...

And I for one don't assume that my heap of metal will start...tis a honda and I am its keeper...I only assume that it will smell of cigarettes when I enter it...

    • I am currently floored.   FedEx did a massive 6 box delivery to the wrong address.  I had an autoship order scheduled to arrive before this past weekend.  Nothing showed up.  I contacted the order site and they had a link for the order...a photo of all my boxes thrown in the snow and up the sidewalk of a residence that was not mine.   You would think that at some point, the driver would have looked at the delivery address after they kept throwing box upon box at this location with no shelter from the elements.  They didn't even knock on the door to inform the residents that massive 65+ pound boxes were left all over their walkway.  Nope.  Just dumped them, took a photo as they were walking away and left.   I wonder what the person who found all of those misdelivered boxes must have been thinking when they saw them.  Maybe they kept everything to use, distribute or sell.  No idea.  No claim was filed on that end as of yet.   Fortunately for me, one of the sites that I ordered from, replaced everything at no extra cost.   Unfortunately, now I'm concerned for the other items yet to be delivered.   Needless to say, I'll be watching my notifications like a hawk.

    • ~~~~~ Yeah, thank you for the check-in.   Happy to say it was all a misunderstanding.  But she pulled out her "ghetto" and that's when things went South.  I get very professional minded when I enter into situations like that because when someone starts bring the court into conversations, I'm in court 2 times a year, every year, so don't go there with me because I will get legal all over you.   She did try to change what she thought she might have said, but I had to call her on it because it's all in written text.  Then she apologized and we were able to have a decent conversation.   I know I joke about me talking so much that people don't hear what I say except for keywords that they are looking for, but that is exactly what happened here.  She heard "payment", "money" and "help out".  It was crazy.  I literally had to have the entire conversation all over again, but I definitely condensed it to only address those 3 words.   Things are back on track, but I emphasized that if she every needed clarification for anything, please say something first instead of jumping to conclusions, then questioning that conclusion, then answering that conclusion, then getting upset at the answer and taking it out on someone who doesn't have a clue what the San Juan Hill just happened.   But this is exactly the reason I do everything with a paper trail.
