Not to get involved in any long drawn out philosophical discussions about the birth and subsequent transmogrification of a genre or subculture I'd say The Piano Sonata No. 14 in C♯ minor "Quasi una fantasia" fits in perfectly. Just my lowly opinion.

In all seriousness, for a pop video it DOES have a good amount of well-thought out "dark-ish" symbolism, is visually original, and yes, certain parts reek of bat shitting. So there.

Gary Numan's entire back catalogue! Check out Replicas, Telekon, Strange Charm & Outland albums specifically! His newer stuff from Exile to the more recent Jagged naturally assumes the darkwave/industrial/Goth label but his older music has just as much darkness running through it. You will hear me go on about him in an obsessive manner, what can I say? I LOVE GARY NUMAN! He's so underrated by so many, the guy is a fucking genius! Anyway, sorry Exsplif, I know you hear this rant on a daily basis, but it must be said!

Anyway seriously, i think Autechre has some good dark gothy tunes even though they're an IDM/glitch/ambient experimental type of group and there are no lyrics or words. A couple of great tracks that come to mind are 'Teartear' and 'Arch Carrier' ...there are many more good dark Autechre songs out there as well if you're into that sort of thing.
