TitsMcGee
So I've been told that I need to start looking for a dress for my sisters wedding in September. And it apparently has to be a dress since I have been forbidden to wear pants of any kind lol. So I was wondering since I suck as fashion if someone could help me find something. I want something thats made from a lighter fabric like a knit jersey since it's an outdoor wedding, and also something brighter colored. I'm not to worried about the length that much, but basically I want this dress to be something I can wear again. I found this one that I really like and might possibly get, but it's a little pricey since it's Alfred Angelo.
gothkytten (2)
this is something you just need to go and try dresses on. sometimes the dress looks great on the rack but horable on the body.
jynxxxedangel
The dress is absolutely lovely! The colour and cut are both very nice; but as I have always said-- proper foundation garments (or lack thereof), will make, or break, your grand entrance! You will want to wear some hella-fuckin\' shape-wear under that dress, as it\'s quite diaphanous. Every little sin will show, trust me! I would suggest a body shaper, such as this, in nude. How low is the back of that dress? It looks to be a halter. The body shaper can be rigged into a halter top, quite easily. I\'ve done it many times before. I LOVE mine! I would also suggest a stick-on bra, to keep your \"girls\" hiked up, and the bustline of the dress falling nicely. If you prefer not to wear one of those, I would at least get some of those nipple band-aid thingies. You don\'t need to have everyone seeing you smuggle peanuts for eternity in the wedding photos, luv! P.S. Gothkytten is right. You should probably try the dress on, before you buy it! This is a major purchase, and you want to get it right the first time-- to save yourself some heartache, if it doesn\'t fit the way you wanted it to. Hopefully by the time of the wedding I'll have dropped 40 pounds. Time to start working out seriously.

bean
That is a beautiful dress, but you do need to try some one to see how they fit. I tried on a ton of dresses before I found one that I liked for my wedding.

Oh I know a bunch of people who do alterations, and I can do them too. Thanks everyone who's given advice. I think that on Tuesday after my tutoring appointment I might drive to one of the bridal shops and see what I can find.
TygerLili
It's a very pretty dress, but it might be a little formal for an outdoor afternoon wedding. Does your sister want more of a black tie dress code? Also, you might want to look into some sort of wrap or jacket, since September weather can be a little unpredictable. If you are serious about losing a lot of weight, I would definitely wait until at least May or June to buy a dress. Even with alterations, 40 lbs. can make a big difference in what type of clothing works with your body type.
pomba gira
I've been buying a lot of clothes from Newport News lately, and they have a "what to wear to a wedding" guide with appropriate ensembles for different seasons, levels of formality, etc. Of course you want to be able to try on whatever you buy... but this could be a resource to help you kind of narrow down what styles you want to look at. I agree with Jynxxxie about the importance of proper foundation garments... I've retained the '70s-'80s mindset about nipples, but good shapewear can make a world of difference in how a dress fits and looks. Complimentary accessories are a must, too... the wrong purse and shoes can wreak havoc on even the sharpest dress!

I think you meant to say this sort of the opposite way-round. "Buy it as soon as possible if you don't know anyone that can do last minute alterations." Unless there is yet another glaring hole in the already massive number of glaring holes in my fashion sense.

I can't type for shit, so I use as few words as possible. I was referring to her plans to lose 40 pounds between now and the wedding. TigerLily made the same point much more clearly. Kit Kat P
Have you checked out Ross? Ross and JcPenney have always been good for those kind of dress purchases. I usually grab an orange julius gird myself, and go in w/ my gf or anyone w/ an honest opinion. I've tried on some dresses that you would never have got to take a second look at that actually looked good on me.

hunhee
You should also possibly check out Lord & Taylor, they're great for dresses and suits at affordable prices. Just a thought.

I wouldn't pay Lord and Taylor prices, but I'm an excellent clearance/thrift store shopper, so it makes a difference. I found Val a BCBG to wear to her work's cocktail party for $10 at a thrift shop. TitsMcGee
I ended up ordering the original one I posted from a local bridal shop. With everything going on this summer I didn't have any time to go dress hunting like I wanted to. I still need to find shoes though.

TygerLili
I have a pair of silver sandals that are actually flip flops if you look at the bottom, but look like dress sandals, complete with little jeweled starbursts on top. I wear them to Ren Faire when I want to be a fairy. Maybe you could find something like that. I'd offer to let you borrow mine if you didn't live out in BFE with no way for me to get them to you.
