50 jobs, 50 states in a year? Man gives it a try

Recommended Posts

THERESA, Wis. – At a time when some people are having trouble finding one job, Daniel Seddiqui is lining up 50 — one in every state. Each job symbolizes the state's most famous industry, and each lasts one week — just long enough for the 26-year-old to appreciate the labor and explore the region.

He's been a park ranger in Wyoming, a corn farmer in Nebraska and a wedding coordinator in Las Vegas.

Last week, in Week 23 of his yearlong saga, he was a cheesemaker in southeast Wisconsin. He mixed ingredients, hoisted slabs of cheddar — and tasted plenty of his work.

"I would say this was as hard as logging," he said Friday, referring to his stint as a logger in Oregon three months ago. "Everything here is done by hand so there's a lot of heavy lifting."

Seddiqui, who grew up in Los Altos, Calif., insists his job-hopping isn't a gimmick. It's a legitimate effort to travel the U.S., learning about cultures across the country and developing a respect for what other people do, he said.

For example, at his Nebraska job he was surprised that every farmer he met had a college degree.

This guy really annoys me. Seriously in my opinion he's taking jobs away from people that could really use the. There are better ways to go about learning about different cultures than this. And his crack about being suprised how farmers are college educated really got on my nerves too, because apparently farmers can't be smart.

Or...he could be doing people a good service. I mean, people are really starting to bitch about not being able to find jobs...yet I have found many jobs with no problem at all, I just can't take them because they don't fit in with school.

Many people think that farmers are stupid...so maybe this guy will open more eyes than just his. Other people think that logging is easy and worthless work, but this guy and those new TV shows are telling people that logging is far more complicated. They also show that loggers no longer destroy entire forests, and are not stupid people. Hell, I tried to get a logging job but its proving to be hard because I don't have my BS yet.

The way he is going at it may be wrong...but the side bonus may be that more jobs get better attention and better reputations. This should be more widely published considering all we are hearing is "there are no jobs" and crap like that.

I give the guy rep points for trying to expand his horizons and knowledge...but yeah if he could give me one of those jobs that would be cool...

..I hope he is going to write a book about his adventure...that would be COOL!

There is a book written by a guy who tried to wash dishes in all 50 states. It's really good, and the guy who wrote it has a awesome sense of humor.

I would hardly say he's taking jobs away from people. Each of these jobs only lasts a week. I'd call it something more like a series of internships. I curious if he's even getting paid to do all these jobs, since he seems to be in it for the experience.

Oh he gets paid alright
