"If changing our world is playing God, it is just one more way in which God made us in his image."

I'm all for genetic augmentation and bettering ourselves through science.

BTW It's also GATTACA (capital letters and only spelled with G, A, T, and C which are the building blocks of the human genome.

Also one of my favorite movies.

Just as long as we don't end up with one word:

KAAAAAAHHHNNNNN!!!!!

In all seriousness, nature tends to favor certain genetic traits. Example: Heterozygotic (one gene dominant, one gene recessive,) people for sickle-cell have an increased resistance to the parasite that causes malaria.

I would be curious to know what evolutionary advantages are for genetic diseases like: Autoimmune diseases, Tay-Sachs, Diabetes, Hemophilia, etc. If there isn't, shouldn't they be eliminated from our genome?

Yeah I realized that AFTER I posted it, and didn't have a chance/time to get back on to correct it till now.

Guanine, adenine, thymine, and cytosine (I remember my biology) ;)

Things that are THIS unnatural seem a bit scary to me. It's like if you mess with something you ought not be messing with, there's going to be an equal and opposite penalty that we may not be aware of yet. :fear: Yes, there may be genetic cures for these current conditions, but what will we create (which will probably be worse) in the process?

I don't like the idea of choosing the way your baby will look. It reminds me of those custom dolls. I would think it would be exciting to be surprised to see what traits the baby gets, that's what makes people unique. But preventing diseases and that stuff I am for.
