Onyx
*appreciating* For being TRUE. (Even though it is harder to phrase things the closer to truth that you get.) You're very kind to make this comment, and it is indeed difficult to know how to respond and yet try to help without pissing off the whole board. Thank you. This board and every single member are actually very dear to me, as I have more in common with you all than those I have to work with and the conservative little town I'm in. DGN has become such a good mix of interesting folk.

Brenda Starrr
Keep the salamander away. I have been going through something very deep and VERY difficult. Something that only 2 people on DGN know about (besides Jeff). And only ONE MOD has bothered to check on me. That Mod is Phee. Back when I used to be a Mod, I checked on a LOT of people. Phee is the ONLY Mod who has been consistently checking on me. This is not about the 3 or 4 others who have PMed me to see if I'm ok. I'm beginning to think it's time for me to fly... Thank you, Phee. And you 3 or 4 others that are NOT Mods. Edited April 1, 2009 by Brenda Starrr

The is absolutely no ill will in that symbol and many others besides me hold that symbol to be somewhat sacred depending on how strong the beliefs are...but whatever... the eternal
Wow, umm, with you being the first person to respond like that to my symbol I really don't know what to say other than I really need to expand my friend group to include more Jewish people. Whereas I view the swastika as a symbol of good luck, I suppose I never thought about its direct associations to Nazi Germany, and that it is the defining symbol representing the systematic genocide of SIX MILLION JEWS, not to mention 6 million people of all other types such as gypsies and pagans. There is absolutely no ill will in that symbol from a Buddhist/Jainist/Hindu perspective, but I have to admit I was completely insensitive when I made a blanket statement about the lack of ill will attributed to the swastika. I guess I never thought about how the swastika is the symbolic representation of murder for Nazis. Obviously, in the hands of fascists, there was an extreme amount of ill will in that symbol. In fact, there is STILL a strong degree of ill will in that symbol, as evidenced by KKK rallies and neo-fascist groups right here in the US. In light of that, I could imagine you viewing my post in a negative insensitive light. Please remember, I am still relatively young and there is much I don't know. In the future, instead of being flip and making comments like "...but whatever..." in reference to the incineration of members of your family, I'll try to be a little more understanding. Maybe I'll even go to the Holocaust Museum in Farmington Hills the next time I make it out to Detroit, so I can get a better appreciation of the pain that symbol brings to you and the descendents of the 12 million people wiped off the planet in the Holocaust. candyman
FIXED Wow, you are so right all my friends are purely white and from Germany. I never took a history class before. Also, I never ever take into account that any of my actions could possible trigger feelings from someone. Also, if they do I am never ever willing to talk about it, explain things, and offer them an apology. I should really study up on revisionism. I guess that am just going around looking to offend people for no good reason. I should probably burn all of my clothing and rip off my tattoo because someone, somewhere could take offense. That only applies to me and my symbols however, because the rule book does not include other symbols that people wear regardless of the fact that they may make me feel bad or cause a reaction on my part. I should probably reject all of the pagan symbols that my ancestors proudly wore and that I wear because someone, somewhere was abused by an ancient clan of Scotts. Good job keeping confrontation to a minimum!

torn asunder
you know what? i get that the swastika can be an offensive symbol, but don't forget the germans stole it from the hindu culture. it's much older that hitler's reign, and had a much different use and meaning then. read here - first real link i found. here's a quote... (my bolding) The word Swastika is normally believed to be an amalgam of the words Su and Asati. Su means 'good' and Asati meant 'to exist'. As per Sanskrit grammer the words Su and Asati when amalgamated into one word become Swasti (as in the case of Su and Aaatam becoming Swagatam meaning welcome). If this derivation of the word Swastika is true, then the literal meaning of the term Swastika would be 'let good-prevail'. There exist many types of signs which stand for the Swastika. Even the standard version has two forms the one facing the right also called the symbol of- the right hand path and the one facing the left called the symbol of the lefthand path. These two Swastikas are also considered to represent the male and female. There is also a Swastika which is an amalgam of these two types. as i said, i understand it offends some people, but your condemnation of anothers belief isn't exactly a great way to communicate that. and how about knocking of the exaggerated sarcasm? it was offered in the nature of it's original use, which was one of goodwill. "let good-prevail". it's not his fault that someone perceived it in a manner in which it wasn't intended...
TitsMcGee
NEWSFLASH: SWASTIKA'S ARE OFFENSIVE TO SOME PEOPLE. I mean, I don't know WHY or anything. Some people really need to learn some sensitivity, but, like, whatever. I can definatly understand how some can be offended, but one shouldn't hate a symbol because of ideology that has been associated with it in the past. I looked it up, and its meaning is good luck. It's a 3,000 year old symbol, that yes at one point has been used for evil. But that is my two cents worth, I don't want to offend anyone.
