Thrift stores have racks and racks and racks of skirts.

Once you see what they've got, you won't buy full priced again.

I'm talking tight knit skirts in every length from crotch-level to ankle, gauzy mermaid-hem gothy numbers, broomstick pleats, velvets in full styles and tight-as-can-be, leather, suede, plaid schoolgirl, you name it. And usually for less than $4.00 each.

I get almost all my skirts from an eBay seller called Holyclothing... but, I'm into long flowy gypsy-queen type skirts. If that's your style, you can't do better for price, quality & selection. Think I posted a pic of my latest acquisition in another thread, can't recall which one tho.

I agree that eBay is a great place to look for clothes. But, the one problem is that you're not sure how they're going to fit until after you've purchased them, and there's no returns. But, if you're familiar with certain labels, you can look for them on the site. I've gotten some cheap secondhand Morbid Threads skirts via the site. I'm basically about a size 8 too.

Thrift stores really ARE the best. Once I buy a sewing machine, the sky's the limit as to what I can and will alter! Come on, Kitten!

Are there some good thrift stores in Detroit? If so, does someone want to show me and do the whole thrift store shopping thing? That would be sooooo cool!

Unless it's a brand I'm familiar with, I only buy clothes on eBay if the seller provides the exact measurements of the garment. I ended up w/a lot of unwearable stuff before I figured that out! Also, most of my favorite sellers like CurvyQueen, le Mistral, Rhonda's, etc. are very good about mentioning if something runs big, small, or whatever.

Way back when, I was a thrift store goddess. Nowadays I don't have the luck or patience or *something*... plus when I'm in thrift stores I'm generally looking for eBay stock rather than goodies for self.

Once upon a time, there were threads in the fashion forum giving lots of locations for thrift shops around Detroit.

Don't have time to hunt them up myself right now, but if a moderator would so choose to... :wink

I know for sure that was done on EZB DGN. Not sure about here.

I like it too... are those laces on the side? or just drawstring ties?  Never been in Old Navy, what's their size range like?

<{POST_SNAPBACK}>

Well they have up to 14 in regular sizes and now have a plus size selection...but I use the term selection very loosely!
