DGN was down earlier today due to lack of funds. This may happen more frequently in the future. I paid for the minimum hosting costs with money I do not have. The community is free as always but it does cost money to run. What value do you place on DGN? Please help if you can.

Even just a half dozen new benefactors / Supporters in addition to the few that we have now would cover our financial goals.

I'll tell you what I told the march of dimes girl the other day. I'm poor, how bout you donate to me :D

Here's an idea though. How about everyone take the money they save on The Ritz's DGN night with the coupons and donate that to the forum. Or for that matter the money you save on drinks at Dead-Line from 10-11. The free admission on Fridays before 12 with that number thingie too, that's four bucks right there.

Just a thought.

Thats actually a really good idea man! Even taking half of what you saved and donating it.

We should have a benefit party :w00t:

Seriously.. We could have a fetish party or something of the like & part of the ticket sales could go to DGN.. & we could have a "goth" theme bake sale at said event.. All of the goodies would be "gothy"... Oooo, a carnival theme, where all the funds for the games go to DGN as well.. Just a rough thought, but I think it would work... All the peoples would have to work for free, but we have enough performer types here ;)

That's bloody brilliant. I'm going to start keeping a tally then donate quarterly or something.

I like your thinking. However I think it would pull in enough money for all the performers to get paid and still turn a profit for DGN's coffer depending on how many people show, and I'm sure quite a few would if it was an official event.

Hell City Club would probably donate all their profits for an evening because of DGN night being held there every Saturday, right?

The problem with "gatherings" for donations and such is that someone in good health and uber trustworthy ala DGN has to run them and make sure they go off. Hard to pin down such folk when it comes to the details. Such talk typically just generates talk, a long topic, and no income.

I'd be willing to help with organising a fundraiser. I have many personal and business references available, who will attest to my trustworthiness and loyalty-- as well as experience in organising large events. I also have promotional experience.

If you are seriously thinking of this, PM me.

The problem isn't you, it's all the members who will say "I DONATED WHERE IS MY STATUS" that might try to make you look bad when they didn't donate and don't deserve a thing (they're out there I'm sure). This is why the fundraiser should just give discounts and collect no money. Then we can tally who shows up and who should be chipping in willingly... or something like that. Then they can take care of things via paypal. It seems the only logical fair way to do things.

Also a forced donation is not a donation at all either.

This is a good idea, SG-- just give a discount at the door, and have people sign a voucher saying they'll be donating by Paypal (and specify the amount), once inside. This would eliminate the need for anyone having to handle a large amount of money.

OR, we could have people donate by Paypal FIRST, to receive an entry voucher-- this would also work. We would need to find a venue that will sponsor/host our event, first. It would be nothing, to call around to some popular venues in the Detroit area, and test the waters. I'd certainly hope that a nightclub owner/manager would see the advertising possibilities and good props that would come from being involved in something like this.

I'm thinking we could put together plenty of bands, performing acts, activity booths, art displays, etc. to make this event a HUGE success.

At any rate, the benefit idea is a GOOD one, and should not be dismissed. With all of the talented and dedicated board members we have here, this DGN benefit scheme could easily become a reality.

For starters, we could begin by electing an official DGN events committee. This would eliminate a lot of the problems we have organising group events, in the first place. All of the responsibility would fall upon those who are ready and willing to accept it. ;)

I organize all of oblivions events.. i would not have a problem helping organize a fundraiser!.. I am sure that other people in Oblivion feel the same way!! and we are pretty self sufficient within the troop were we do not need to hire many outside acts!

if you wish to discuss this please feel free to PM me!

You are a smart Lady, Ma'am ;)

I think the idea of a benefit party is smashing. Don't bother with donations OR discounts. Just have it be $5 to get in or so and have all the money go straight to DGN. Do not pass go, do not collect $200... if you want to donate separately, you still can via Paypal. If you want to donate $10 via Paypal, why worry about whether you'd get $2 off the $5 entry? If you only want to pay a total of $13, just donate $8 via Paypal instead. Discounts just sounds like it's too much hassle. Most people who will donate won't care about the ~$2-3 discount anyway - after all, it's more donation, and obviously they want to help out DGN, so why quibble about $2-3? I certainly wouldn't care.

As for taking donations there...eh, no reason not to I suppose, but I'd skip it. If people want to make donations they can the way they always have, via Paypal, and then you can easily give them their added status (speaking of which, I still have flood control on me...). If you are worried about people wanting special status for giving cash, just don't accept it. Just have all money for DGN made that night be from the $5 admissions and maybe like $1 per drink sold. Most performers would perform for free I imagine (I kinda assumed they did anyway at most events), and I'm sure there are a couple DJs who would DJ for free for this. You could make a decent amount I think. Don't market it as a straight DGN night, and you can get some new people who might just then sign up for DGN, killing two birds with 1 stone! Well, 3, if you figure in that we'll all have a smashing good time!

If you also do like OMG said and have like a little bake sale and craft fair, that would be awesome too! Each seller donates somewhere between 20-50% of their intake to DGN? (Not 100% because supplies cost money...) I would make some hairbows and accessories for it. I'm not sure about what kind of licenses you'd need to sell food items though. But if you could get away with it, that would kick some serious ass.

If the venue has a food license then you should be good to go. Which both The Works and The Ritz have. Most clubs don't care either and will let you order out from what I've seen or bring in home made goods. However those aren't sold usually either so I don't know.

I do know that having lemons, limes, and even the ice for drinks requires a special lesser food license, or at least that's what I was told. I've been meaning to check into the specifics of that but navigating government websites can be really annoying. http://www.michigan.gov/dleg/0,1607,7-154-10570---,00.html
