Destroit
Bands that SHOULDN'T come back: COMBICHRIST Andy LaPlegua is no longer attractive because he let himself go, and since musically, uhmmm well musically they are the Linkin Park of EBM (you've heard 30 seconds of any of their songs and congradulations, you've just heard all that CombiChrist has to offer) they reallllly need to stop making music and touring. Once Andy LaPlegua loses hotness, the band should be over . Who would I like to see? Someone should have re-routed Throbbing Gristle from Chicago to Detroit, damnit! Skinny Puppy of course, but that's already in the works. I'd love to see Ministry live. Front 242 is another that comes to mind. How 'bout some Bauhaus? You can all laugh, but I'd like some mother fucking Ladytron...damnit. Edited April 14, 2009 by Chernobyl

Also ... *waits for Phee to chime in with "Birthday Party Massacre"* ...The Birthday Massacre...? Yeah, they're pretty sweet, haven't had much of a chance to listen to them. Combichrist - Get Your Body Beat - "What the Fcuk" "Can't really do it yourself, so you found another way to be heard. And even if I were to change, do you really think it would be more like you? I've got better things to do than listen to you cry." As for Bauhaus, the bats have left the belfry. They're gone. Not touring any more. Maybe XPQ-21. To be honest, I don't feel Aaron can bring big names or classics to Detroit since, judging by the aftermath, he's not ready to play with the big dogs. I would love to be proved wrong by seeing a few big bands come to Detroit under his banner.

Just because you're famous (if you could even call him that, they couldn't even fill the Majestic halfway in January) doesn't mean you're good. See: Britney Spears. And I'm sure half of the girls that were there just went for one thing: because they thought Andy was hot. Saw them when they opened for KMFDM and yeah, loud beats that I've heard from 8,000 other EBM bands that came before them, and a hot lead singer. The second concert I had to get shitfaced just to stay . We went because a friend of ours really wanted to go. But as to say I can't do it...? I'll tell you that I've never tried because I don't really care. Personally don't know why you were getting all huffy about it...did I mention your name in my post? I thought I was talking about CombiChrist. My favorite band is Skinny Puppy and I know they're good so I don't need to defend them, if a band is good, they need no defense from their fans against critics, imo. fish
Laibach needs to come back here soon. 242 was great a few years ago too. and get die form while u are at it. i know i should choose some realistic domestic bands i want to see but i just can't think of any. And i don't understand at all why a show like ladytron/faint skips over detroit when they had an open day in between chicago and toronto. far too many bands skip this area and it's pretty sad. i'm assuming the areas promoters for shows like this have just dropped off over the past few years? As someone who performs locally, I would not be surprised if a lot of the well known bands skip Detroit because promoters fail to pay them or make their stay a living hell by not living up to their end of the agreement. DJ Saint
...I would not be surprised if a lot of the well known bands skip Detroit because promoters fail to pay them or make their stay a living hell by not living up to their end of the agreement. There are several reasons why bands skip over Detroit and other cities. Sometimes it's as simple as tour routing doesn't allow for a stop in Detroit. Other times it's that the bands are only doing select dates in select cities (ie: Throbbing Gristle, VNV Nation on several tours). Case may be the booking agent doesn't know who to contact in a certain city (odd, but yeah it does happen, see: 16 Volt). Occasionally bands don't want to get stuck playing on a Wednesday night. Sometimes technical riders can't be met (De/Vision the first time they wanted to tour). Often times the bands themselves are charging wayyy too much money for a single show (hello Alien Sex Fiend). It's all negotiations and if it's doable then the show usually happens. Some of the request of these bands are insane and it should be made clear THAT in most cases it is NOT the fault of the promoter, but many of these bands just being simply unreasonable. There are more reasons than you could imagine. I've only once ever in my 20+ years of scene involvement run into a band that toured America and swore they would never come back due to the way the promoters/tour agency treated them. My old band did several shows on that tour and basically the headliners got their egos bruised when they realized they weren't the big thing in the states as they had thought they were. Circumstances such as that are rare. Having worked in promoting over 200 events, each one proves unique. Some go off easier than others (thanks to a hardworking crew) while other shows are like pulling teeth. In the end it's usually rewarding. It always amuses me to hear what people think are the reasons bands bypass Detroit, cause 9 times out of 10 it's so far removed from the truth. And i don't understand at all why a show like ladytron/faint skips over detroit when they had an open day in between chicago and toronto. far too many bands skip this area and it's pretty sad. i'm assuming the areas promoters for shows like this have just dropped off over the past few years? Nope, Darque Productions is still here and still booking all kinds of electronic/goth shows. Check out the past shows archive at: http://www.darqueproductions.com/event-archive.php We work with the biggies in conjunction with the major venues when we can (ie: Puppy, Sisters, Front 242, etc...). Some stuff we just don't have the resources to do, but we're still very much active in bringing live events to Detroit. Also keep your eyes and ears on local promoters Dethlab who have brought acts like Motor, Lowfish, Solvent, Kill Memory Crash, Telfon Tel Aviv, Vitalic, and more to the city. This Thursday they welcome Fixmer/McCarthy to Detroit. McCarthy is the voice of industrial legends Nitzer Ebb. And of course there is the new guy Graphic Equalizer Productions who booked the Funker show. so yeah, there are still promoters working behind the scenes to make shows happen. Keep your eyes and ears open.
