ROLL CALL: Dead-Line 4/15 @ The Works

Recommended Posts

Must've been because I was there.

That's right Tracy, you missed me.

It was cool seeing Chernobyl. I haven't seen her in a long time.

Helena: I got Calix back to my place safely and she was still a bit tipsy so I let her crash over here. She's still sleeping.

I KNOW I missed me too!

Okay, I kid, I had a fun night. Got pwned by my Boshy in pool, I won the first game though and every game I played I had the other person still with pool balls and I was down to the 8. The movie was sweet, one suggesion...subtitles! I know, I know, this is America and you guys must be thinking "nobody will be able to read it anyways" but have hope for the few in the crowd who can and will

I think it was odd because of the music...did you guys get a new and/or guest DJ? I noticed quite a bit of standard EBM beat type stuff played, toward the end of the night it changed a little though. Nothing BAD per-se, just different.

Glad I could make it out after all and yes, brought my Boshy to a club . The other girl with us was Kalina and she had a good time too, was curious about "all the girls in extravagent clothes going in and out the back door" so I had to explain that Oblivion had a dress rehearsal, explained to her what Oblivion is, and now she wants to see it.

Hope I will be back there soon, with money looking kinda tight even for $2 cover and gas :crybaby. Was gracious enough to have Boshy treat. Hopefully will be back soon.

No..same DJs...just they decided to play harder stuff...

I love you guys but honestly....with the back room semi-permanently not open (even if we had had a not sucky crowd you couldn't have opened it last night since oblivion was back there, and apparently their rehearsals now take priority over us, even as we pay our (over advertised price) cover and such...last week it was really crowded in there and I think we could have opened the back room actually; though admittedly last night it was really dead... ), and with the increasingly less my-style-of-music with every week that passes, I think I may actually just stop coming for a while until I hear it's returned to what it is in my mind. In my mind it is the perfect event, but a good percentage of the time the last few weeks I'm just sitting around feeling bored...and in that case, I'd rather not be a zombie at work on my busiest day of the week (Thurs).

I love you when you are awesome, so...please be awesome guys! I want to continue to come every week!

I know I sound all self-important, and it's fine if you want to play the harder EBM stuff. Different people like different things, and I'm okay with that. I just probably won't be there myself. I won't hate on you, but I will miss you. That's all.

I feel kinda sad because I thought we were growing into a really strong deathrock night, the only place around I can enjoy this kind of music, but a lot of times it just sounds like everywhere else. And I can get that...everywhere else. Differentiate from the pack and you'll find your niche. Be another City and...people will go to City (bigger, more people, etc).

And really...my pet peeve in all things is people that advertise one thing and do another, so even when I loved you the most ever, it still pissed me off that you'd advertise 2 rooms and have 1, advertise $2 and charge $3... it's the principle of the thing, btw - I seriously could not care less about the dollar.

I dunno, apparently I'm a grouchy bitch today? I'm sorry... I really do still love you guys. But you've gotta get the complaints out in the open every once in a while so you are aware of what people think.

On a happier note: Thanks so much for the googoomuck, Anthony! <3<3 And a lot of other win in there as well. I was waiting all night for your set, and you never disappoint.

it is best that i address these issues since i run the night.

last night oblivion's rehersal time ran over, they usually are done by 10pm. they have a show at the works this saturday so they needed the extra rehersal time.

the reason why we do not use both rooms is because there is not enough people. you cant run 2 rooms with 20-30 people the club will look empty.

as far as the ebm goes, dj saint was the only one who really played any last night, that was from 10:45-11:45, scary guy will post the playlist soon.

we had planned on raising the cover to $3 starting in april, unfortuantely i have not had the money to print new flyers with the new cover charge. i apologize for the incovience.

dead-line was never promtoed as a deathrock night, it has/is promoted as a night that plays variety, which is what we do.

my vision was to have 2 rooms, 1 all ebm, industrial, etc the other goth, deathrock, etc. but right now that is not feesible.

if the night can build to 50+ people steady then 2 rooms can happen.

we appreciate all the support we have gotten and we hope you continue to support us.

we are still growing and the future will bring good things, please be patient with us.

It's hard because I see both sides of the issue and agree with both.

Wilhelm is right that two rooms does look empty although I don't really care about a crowd. I'm happy just hearing music myself as was the case on City Club Sundays when DJ Riccer was spinning with 15 people in the club and ME on the dance floor spinning around acting like an idiot till I fell down, simply because I could.

However I felt the same way Helena does when John would close the two upper levels of the bar. People stopped coming because of that fact. Hell I still can't decide which floor was my favorite out of two and three, but it certainly wasn't the first floor. Part of the draw of that club was the three bars on three levels. Most of the time people didn't care if one of the bars was closed, they just wanted a change of view.

Another good example is The Labyrinth when the upstairs bar was a part of it and people could chill out up there as well. I mean I loved that, why did they ever change that? They did it too late though because if they did it back when The Lab was packed when I first started going they'd probably have made even more money.

Oblivion is certainly not more important than the patrons though (and I'm in the troupe saying this). The patrons come first because the patrons bring us money. The night exists for them first and always, otherwise it would just be a warehouse practice space. That being said Oblivion does give The Works a sweet deal for letting them use their space to practice. I'm sorry it went a little over last night but that was due to the fact there will be some bands at an all ages show running from 7-9 tonight at The Ritz (which none of us over there are happy about either but this was planned MONTHS ago).

Believe me I and all the other DJs have been nagging Wilhelm as well because it means more time for each of us to do our thing. However we also understand his point of view as well. It costs money to run the sound system and lights back there as well. There are 7 power amps driving two large speakers. Then there's the back heater which costs money because otherwise it's freezing back there.

I also like the hard core dedicated crowd that shows up every week and I'm glad we have that. I do what I can to make the night awesome and I'm sorry Helena that you missed my really awesome set. However I do like that we do a variety of things, two rooms or not. We do Deathrock and Goth, and we do Industrial and neoEBM. If we're so inclined we'll even throw down some metal and punk. Although it's really hard to please everyone we still try.

Believe me though that you're concerns have not fallen on deaf ears.

I will post the playlist later, I'm at a friends house right now and my gear is in the car for tonight's show. Rest assured though it's all awesome.

I think that's what I was trying to politely get at about the music, I heard one odd remix of Assimilate and maybe there were a few that were good...but it was very City Clubish, which I guess is what I was getting at when I said "different". I'm with Osaka when it comes to keeping it more deathrock and old school industrial (note, did not say EBM). It wasn't even one DJ in particular, just the overall tone of the night.

I wasn't there ALL night, however, I believe we showed up at around 10:40 and stayed until around midnight, so I'm not sure what else was played before I arrived and after I left. Just, what I heard when I was there was pretty much 100% EBM is all...

Awesome? It's neoEBM that sucks.

EBM is Skinny Puppy, Front 242, Nitzer Ebb, etc... Technically speaking of course.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Electronic_body_music

Unless that's what you meant, in which case we've got business.

No no, sorry, I meant the new CombiCrap kinda stuff, of course not classic EBM. I suck at correct word usage sometimes.

I even like SOME new EBM, just not oontz after oontz after oontz after oontz, if you catch my drift.

that is the element he brings to the night.

i played after sain and i played more industrial stuff with some goth.

scary has the playlist, but some of the stuff i played from 11:45-12:45

skinny puppy,sisters,siouxsie,ministry,hanzel und gretyl,genetorturers,the cure,front 242,london after midnight.

all the dj's at dead-line bring a different style, which is why we host the most musically diverse night in the scene.

starting next week the dj's will be in the back room, the front room will be a lounge type area (pool, chatting, etc)

so it is official, there will be 2 rooms starting next week.

Thank you for the kind words, I appreciate it, really. As Wilhelm and Scary Guy have said, I can see both sides of the argument. Personally, I would love to have the two rooms open every night and have the best of both worlds going in different areas, becuase I know they dont mix well. Sadly, as of right now im not sure if its the best idea. I personally really enjoy the music that all of the DJ's play, it gives a variety that most bars dont have. I really hope you continue to come. I will always play your goth/deathrock fix, but I also understand that the scene has changed (sadly) and if we want the place to prosper, we have to cater to all the different genres. With any luck, after we get some new flyers, we can promote and have both rooms open and you can enjoy yourself to the full extent. I hope you at least enjoyed my set last night. and I will do my best to make it worth you coming out every time.

I like the variety too. The DJs are all very nice and accomodating at Deadline. I also like the crowd, as small as it may be some nights. Like I've said before, the people at Deadline generally seem to be really into the music. The night isn't about showing off, twirling glowsticks, watching girls grope and make out, getting a piece of ass, etc.--the attitude I loathe at other clubs. I hope this night continues to grow and that Helena keeps coming out too.

I'm sorry I missed out last night.

I agree, thats the one thing I think we have going that other clubs dont is we seriously are into the music, not the fashion or popularity. ( I am not saying its a bad thing in any way what other clubs do, as I have said before, I just want the scene to thrive) I hope other start to think like you tracy, because you rock, as do all the other dead-liners. and I hope to see you all next week, Helena, REQUEST SOME STUFF BEFORE HAND, that way Scary Guy and myself will make sure it happens.

Thanks. You know I think you rock too! The idea of two rooms is nice, but I have to say that I like the sort of coziness of having everyone in front too. I get to see and chat with people I don't know very well that way. As cheesy as it sounds, I think Deadline currently has this familial quality. I think it's very comfortable.

Tipsy? I was as close to wasted as I let myself get. It was a miracle that I could walk in those boots, as I remember. Thanks for letting me crash. You saved some lives, I'm sure. *Note to self: The Works bartender means business on those drink specials--use extreme caution.*
