PETA wants Pet Shop Boys to change band name

Animal rights group Peta has requested Pet Shop Boys to change their band name. Peta (People For The Ethical Treatment Of Animals) reportedly requested that the pop duo rename themselves the 'Rescue Shelter Boys' to highlight conditions in pet shops.

I mean, I understand that a lot of pet shops create totally deplorable conditions for animals, and that's not even getting into the "puppy mills" issue. Hence why all of my pets have been rescues I just think this is going a bit too far...

I agree, I've always gotten my animals (save my lizard who I got from a friend who bread it with his own two lizards) from the humane society. I think my response would have been the same as "The Pet Shop Boys".

Does PETA have any concept of trademark rights, publicity rights, etc. or are animal rights all they care about? The band has been performing under that name for two decades. Sure, bands like Frontline Assembly have varied their name slightly, but they're still Frontline Assembly.

At least these animal rights people are too scared for the moment to go after tarantulas.

They've done more to hurt animals overall than to help. PETA are a bunch of lying, hypocritical idiots. I'm not sure what their actual motivation is, however I suspect someone at the top is skimming funds. They certainly aren't using the money to help animals that I can see.

If you ever try to adopt a pet from PETA they are extremely anal about background checks. It is easier to adopt a child than to adopt a pet from PETA. There is one chapter in Wisconsin that is pretty militant and one member got arrested for beating the crap out of an owner that adopted a dog...she saw the guy hit the dog with a newspaper after it went after someone on the sidewalk. They should try the euthanasia program themselves to see if it is humane...we are really animals too right?
