Looking for forms of Darker Folk/Gothic Americana/Darker Western Music

I'm looking for Darker Folk/Gothic Americana/Darker Western music. Even though Project Playlist is limited to what's all there so I may or may not find anything.

I know there are a lot of D.J.'s and music-lovers on here so I thought I would ask before I go skimming through Last.FM like I'm getting paid for it, when in reality I'm just obsessed.

Here is what I have so far to help with what I'm into for this playlist.. not all of it is dark but its personal taste:

Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds.... LOVE THEM!

Timber Timbre

Bone Orchard - not the 80s UK deathrock band; a New Mexico outfit

The Dark Angels

Vocals not quite "Eldritch" but might be what you're looking for, musically. :wink

Oh yeah, and The Slow Poisoner!

Thanks for the recommendations, I'll check all these out. :jamin (I've decidedly got rid of the vocal preferences.)

There's a lot of great music I've found so far and its a hard pick, but the Apocalyptic Neo-Folk band Rome is probably my favorite currently, if just barely, for the epic ambiance.

If you would like to explore the darker aspects of folk music, I suggest researching British/bluegrass "murder ballads."

The murder ballad has always been my favourite music sub-genre. :)

I had heard that term and didn't know it was a genre. I'll definitely check it out.

The Tiger Lillies.... plenty of dark, negative role models and a kickass accordionist.

Nothing wrong with dark role-models, thank ya. =P

I probably should've mentioned these bands from the past:

The Tombstones (lotta bands had this name;this one was an 80s deathrock band outta Atlanta with a dark bluesy sound akin to Gun Club)

Tex & The Horseheads

And you probably already know about The Gun Club. :wink

I heard The Gun Club awhile back, I have yet to sift through 'em. Thanks for the list.

Look into THE HUNGRY GHOST.... Good stuff

Sweet, I'll check 'em all out.

gnod.net

try it out.

Sounds interesting, I shall.

Thanks much to everyone.

Go get Murder Ballads By Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds (w/special guest P.J.Harvy)

I know...some one said one...some one said the other...but clickin' into here...this was MY thought for Scales...it is my #2 favorite album in the world.

Outside #1 by David Bowie would be #1 Also very dark...but electronic based.
