The news has been bad for decades, but there may yet be hope for Detroit. The city's new mayor, Kenneth V. Cockrel Jr., assumed office on Sept. 19, 2009--and hasn't committed a single felony.

He assumed office in the future? Way to proofread the article editor.

What the fuck does that have to do with it?

You are probably to young to remember...but we used to be the MURDER capitol of the USA...

...back then...Michigan had PLENTY of jobs...

Yah I remember, it was Flint. And the reason I say it has to do with the jobs now is because there aren't any. Crime rates go up when there is high poverty. The reason Flint was the murder capital was because of the high gang violence. Please don't assume because I'm only 23 that I don't know some things.

You obviously don't know what I'm talkin' about...when I lived in Cali, I was in close contact with my aunts & uncles, & G-maw...well...there were plenty of jobs togo around...& DETROIT was in fact the 80's...(I don't understand what Flint has to do with this DETROIT situation.)....I think that Detroit was very drenched in blood (& FIRE!) & anguish before the jobs started disappearing.

Think.....what OTHER large city had to count structure fires (YEARLY) in the hundreds (not tens & one but in hundreds).....DETROIT...as a City-being...is suicidal! HAHA!

.....these things don't even COUNT the massive numbers of peoples that are lying around individual destroying their lives with alcohol, crack cocaine & heroin, oh yeah...meth is big (& quiet)....

DETROIT IS SUICIDAL!

Don't argue with me either on this point! I have lost more peers than I can count to the D....to all kinds of shit! This place is fuckin' nuts! :harhar:

*sings*

It's so..cold in the D...

*di-di----di-di-di------di-di--di-di----di-di-di--di-di--etc.*

OLD NEWS!

The destruction reached a peak in the mid- to late-1980s, with more than 800 fires set in 1984, and 500 to 800 fires in the three days and nights before Halloween in a typical year. FROM

Detroit was pegged the nation’s murder capital in the 1980s and has lost nearly 1 million people since 1950, according to the Census Bureau. FROM

Now...if I sound upset...maybe it's 'cause I am...I may seem to be mockin' you...but in fact you are mocking you...you do not KNOW what I am talkin' about...'cause when I moved to the D from the C...you were in Elementary school (at best)....I had to watch out & not wear any any purple or green or blue or red....you could get shot you see...walkin' down a street...RANDOM.....so REALLY...think about your rebuttals...or like, dig deeper than a wiki...or maybe ask an Elder...that lived HERE...ever even met someone that lived in Detroit since the 50's????

Still think I'm talkin' about tiny lil' Flint?

According to the FBI, Flint has one of the highest crime rates in Michigan (5538 incidents/100,000 residents). In the 1980s and 90's Flint was nicknamed the murder capital of the U.S.

Mock away if you feel you must, I really don't give a rats ass.

Everyone wants the title...I don't know why...there are articles that claim the D, Washington DC, Chicago, & NYC as the murder capitol, depending on the year...but find me 801 fires set in 1 night anywhere but here.

It was not about Flint. It was about Detroit...& I don't think that murders are the only thing I was talkin' about was it?

*waggles butt in the air*

Father: Now kids both of your cities are as equally violent in their own special ways

Children (aka Flint/Detroit supporters): GEE DAD, THAT'S REALLY SWELL. THANKS.

America’s Most Dangerous Cities - Detroit Tops The List

Posted April 24th, 2009 by Piyush Bakshi - 1,224 views

A detailed study on the most dangerous cities in America carried out by Forbes magazine has thrown up some alarming facts and insights. The study, based FBI statistics, has revealed that Detroit’s rate of 1,200 violent crimes per 100,000 people is the highest in the country. Murder and non-negligent manslaughter, forcible rape, robbery and aggravated assault were considered violent crimes. What’s interesting is that it’s not the pressures of an increasing population but a decrease in population that has seen Detroit rank consistently as one of America’s most dangerous cities. Closedown of of manufacturing units since the sixties has seen the population come down from 1.8 million in 1950 to half that number today.

hey, rev - no offense at all, man, but, why so uptight? it's statistics, and people can make numbers say anything they want to...

Yeah...call it statistics...I call it MY LIFE...dig? I seriously can not count all the peoples I have lost to this city.

See...something is wrong with the D, man...& it has been this way for a lot longer than some fuckin' job shortage.

I was trying to talk about something deeper.

I tend to agree with Rev. Detroit has been "soul sick" for a lot longer than this recession. Anyone who is sensitive to "vibes" would know what we are referring to.

It's quite mentally/physically painful/draining for me to visit; therefore, I don't visit often. Bad juju, man.
