So...I've decided to no longer go to City Club, Necto...or any other club for that matter.

The cigarette smoke really messes with me, and I'm not happy with how the scene and people around me effect me.

I have met a lot of great people there, but I'd much rather prefer seeing them, and visiting with them in a more serene, and less toxic environment.

I hope to get to see most of you in another setting.

I will miss those of you I have been able to spend time with, while I was attending the DGN events(even if I hadn't very often, when I did, it was nice)

Sorry to hear that. I like seeing people in quieter, more subdued settings too, but I'll keep going to City as well.

I know where you're coming from I havent been to CC in years and I have never been to Necto once.

My days at CC were dark and hazy and I barely remember them but I do remember the cool people I met (Harold being namely one of them) there and am glad I did meet these awesome people.

Im not saying I will never go back to CC ever again.

But definitely no time soon.

That's one thing I liked about the clubs in California. No smoking inside, and, if you can deal with the smoke, usually a cool little patio area outside for the smokers, or for the non-smokers like myself who wanted to go outside and cool off.

Anyway, I understand how you feel, and I've been know to take a long hiatus or two from the the club scene myself, but I always end up missing it after a few months. It's the easiest place to catch a lot of people. The private parties and get-togethers I've been to have been kind of hit or miss. It really depends on who shows up. At least with the club, if I don't know many people I can still dance.

I don't feel particularly comfortable at clubs/bars myself. I've always had trouble finding my place in large groups to begin with, and while I can tolerate cigarette smoke, the noise does get to me. Its hard to find another way of meeting lots of people in one area on a weekly basis though.

Meh...I would gladly take a relative risk of 1.25 in a confidence level of 95% to hang out with my friends and have fun...but then again I don't freak out until the relative risk reaches past levels of 4 or 5 in a confidence level of 95%...no more parties at the mustard gas plant I guess...

There comes a point where the marginal benefits are outweighed by the marginal costs, when the companionship is outweighed by the drama. I've taken breaks from City, but never say never.

Mustard gas plant parties? That's a cool idea. Detroit has more than enough cool abandoned factories and what not.

People actually do give a shit...its just that there are no options presented to them. It is either all or nothing. Most smokers will move away if it really bothers you that much...but something needs to be said nicely otherwise it all goes to hell.

I should start a thread on all the places I can't go to because my allergies are triggered and I get nasty headaches...maybe I could get perfume and cologne banned from classrooms and public places that aren't really public but are instead privately owned...hmmm

I'd also like to know, what the hell is with the perfume and allergies comparison? Moot Point, try again. Like I said, there is no defense for smoking except a personal defense. You can't possibly compare cigarettes to anything else besides cigarettes. I DON'T respect the ACT of smoking. But I do respect the smoker. Of course...that is tangible...since some people just can't stand the fact that their smoking and releasing poison into the air is intolerable. HOW DARE US ASTHMATICS HAVE A PROBLEM WITH POISONOUS SMOKE!

Even if you really do your best to keep your habit from effecting the people around you, you are effecting yourself, And the people who love you. I never said it wasn't their right to kill themselves, I just don't have to like it when it effects me.

And I think suicide is extremely selfish and enrages me.....no defense for suicide, no excuse.

As for assisted suicide for people in the hospital suffering, if their going to die anyways, might as well end their pain.

I also have friends who smoke....and I respect and love them, but honestly....I still don't have to agree with or like any of their reasons to smoke.

And I never will.

Who cares about the smoke? It's the way people interact at those places (under the influence of alcohol), that keeps me away. As A_D mentioned, it can be quite toxic-- especially for anyone who would prefer a stable environment, rather than chaotic.
